Guest 3shirts Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 (edited) Well I have ordered a G1 and delivery is due on Tuesday. I will still have my Omnia but will most likely have to sell it on. I would like to take the opportunity to say that this is one of the best gadget/tech communities I have ever used and the amount of apps, advice, links and general fun i've found here have been incredible. I was disappointed with the Omnia when I first got it, mainly due to it's reliance on the WM6.1 interface which is often ugly and not finger friendly. Since I came here I have completely overhauled it, flashed the ROM a dozen or more times, changed the touch panel, found apps like SMS-Chat, SBP Mobile Shell and M2D and loads of tweaks and tricks to make it a brilliant and fun phone to use. I am a total gadget freak and Linux fan so it's time to take Android for a spin but the Omnia is still a brilliant phone and my change is no relfection on it. Thanks to you all and good luck in your future Omnia-ing <_< Edited May 30, 2009 by 3shirts
Guest lastnikita Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 I'm looking forward to samsung's android phone which looks brillant <_< let's see how android evolves by then..
Guest Gaz25 Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Shame really. A mate at work got the HTC magic so I thought i would give it a try, considering I never used or even seen Android OS. To me its basically the same as SPB 3. I too love my gadgets and always want the next best thing but I would not have gone for G1 when I have the omnia. Instead I would have saved the money as there are one or 2 phones out later this year that sound good. Can't remember the make of one of them but it has a 1GHz cpu!!! Good luck with your G1
Guest z3ntn3l Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 .... bla bla.... I am a total gadget freak and Linux fan so it's time to take Android for a spin but the Omnia is still a brilliant phone and my change is no relfection on it.Maybe in the next weeks we will see a first android-port on the omnia. So no need to buy a (in comparison with the omnia) technical shitty Google-Phone now. Maybe Android will never be fully working on the omnia and if its not working, buying an Android-Phone is the way to go but for now, i wouldnt buy a Magic/Whatever just to have Android right now.
Guest 3shirts Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Hmm my bonfire appears to be dwindling, seems there is too much urine on it
Guest Foster318 Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Hmm my bonfire appears to be dwindling, seems there is too much urine on it Lol, well congrats on the new phone. Hope you like it, and if not the omnia and modaco will still be here.
Guest Rooster Misfit Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 my buddy has the g1 i have played with it off and on the past 2 weeks and i dont find it anything impressive or better.
Guest dwallersv Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Good luck friend, and have a blast with your new toy! I can utterly sympathize, being an unrepentant gadget maniac myself. Any new toy is always loads of fun. Don't pay any attention to the wet blankets here throwing water on your fire. They feel insulted for some reason, it seems, that you are leaving the Omnia behind. Silly. I'm sticking with my Omnia until a better Omnia with WM hits the streets here in the US, because it meets my needs, both practical and gadget-wise. For me, being able to mess with an open platform is very important, which is what keeps me away from Android, iPhone, and Symbian. I know I'd be pulling hair out in frustration with the limitations on adjusting the device to fix things that don't work the way I'd like them too. Holding out for a US version of the T*Omnia. I know there are no plans, publicly, but I'm optimistic nonetheless.
Guest xXJohnXx Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Have a great trip with your new gadget <_< I know you had great fun with your omnia :) So lets hope this will do the same for you B) Ltr :D
Guest Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Ah... I woudln't buy G1, because just of Android, there is a Development team, they're write Android to Omnia, they're making a very good job, http://support-köhler.de/andromnia/
Guest 3shirts Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 It isn't just for android, I also miss having a hardware keyboard. I know some people don't feel the need for one but I get annoyed with the on-screen ones and I've tried all and sundry third party ones but suffer the same. I have no doubt there will be things that are poor compared to Omnia but it's more about a change than an improvement for me.
Guest Skyline987 Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Yea my friend has a g1. Since he got it its just been a really long game of anything he can do I can do better
Guest rappetor Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I was very instersted in getting a G1 as well. But at the moment in both features and speed it seems the Omnia is still better. However! Android is a more modern and better looking system. And I'm really a fan of the Android system so far, but it does need to mature a bit. Become more complete, which certainly is happening (looking at the roadmap etc). It will certainly be an option for me later this year when more Android phones become available. Good luck with the G1 mate! Some of my friends have the G1 and they all love it. I'm sure you will too! <_<
