Guest vlodek Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) I upgraded ROM in Samsung center in Bangkok before few days. ( i live outside Thailand but visited there and my Omnia is from Thailand ). They did the upgrade in frame of the warranty. After the upgrade its version is: PDA I900DXIA5/DZIA5 Phone DXIA2. But the total storage memory is only 76 MB so after hard reset i am left with free 36 MB. ( The total program memory is ok about 95 MB ). I sow in the forum that this ROM should give about 91 MB total storage memory. When i asked the Samsung center ( in MBK ) about the reason they explained that the hardware is ok and this is the data for that ROM. Anybody can help with explanation why the total storage memory is lower in my case ? Edited May 31, 2009 by vlodek

Hi vlodek, You have a lot Samsung and Microsoft Junk on your Omnia with the "official" rom that is the first things our cooks get rid of in the roms they make for us to use. Like, do you have several movie trailers? How about a bunch of really lame ringtones? Stuff like that take up memory. There is more I can't think of now. Maybe some others can add to the list of unwanted stuff that the cooks delete. Ron...

When i examine it i don't see anything special .
Guest ronaldb3 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) Thank you for response. Can you point on the directories and files that i can delete ? I can't tell you where they are since I have not had them for many months since I have been using the cooked roms from here. You are going to have to be more of a detective and help yourself. Look at your list of ringtones under Settings/system/personal/phone. then use File Explorer search feature or Total Commander or the Search app to find where they really are. Then do something similar for movie trailers (if you have them. you never did say.) I also remember there were some wallpapers that could be manually deleted too. And if you have the Chinese language files in memory (I don't know where they are), you can manually delete those to recover about 3meg of space. Go for it--- Ron... PS-some of the stuff the cooks delete from their cooked roms we can not just "delete" ourselves. That's why we love :-* our cooks so much and use their roms. PPS-maybe you should read the tutorials around here on flashing roms and consider becoming a flasher. <_< Edited June 1, 2009 by ronaldb3
Guest vlodek Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Can be that the reason for less total storage memory are the Chinese fonts ? Because i see the Chinese keyboard in the keyboard options. How can I delete them ?

How can I delete them ? It has been a long time but I remember something about "plum". Check the \Windows folder and delete ones starting with "plum". Then soft reset. But it only gets a little bit back - about 3megs. You really need to read up on flashing so you can get 50+megs more with some lite roms. Ron...
Guest qbus Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Can be that the reason for less total storage memory are the Chinese fonts ? Because i see the Chinese keyboard in the keyboard options. How can I delete them ? You can't delete files from ROM. Amount of free memory just after hard-reset is the largest possible value on current ROM (it can be a little more when removing files copied in preconfiguration phase [like Plum folder] but this is not too much /in fact those files still exists and occupy space - after preconfiguration they are doubled/). The only resonable posibility is to flash phone with (custom) ROM which has more available for user memory (but does not have original Samsung applications).
Guest ronaldb3 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 (it can be a little more when removing files copied in preconfiguration phase [like Plum folder] but this is not too much ). Hi qbus, You are certainly on our list of cooks we love. <_< I remember deleting the Plum files way back. I must have just been deleting the copies. That and the wallpapers (probably copies too) did give me about 3meg back. Not much, but I didn't need those files. Back then, either we didn't have lite versions or I didn't know enough to use them. So even a few megs helped. Ron...
