Guest xXJohnXx Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 as title really? i've backed up all my photos, music and contacts, but do i have to reset my omnia before i install a new ROM? Its the best way yes <_< Hard reset clears your rom. When you have hard reset, then you flash the new rom. And after the flash a hard reset is better to . Its like starting fresh. So you dont get conflicts :) Btw, this info is posted all over the Chefs threads. The are the Cooks, so the know the drills. Just follow there info, and all will be cool. Hope this helps B)

Guest ronaldb3 Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) ok i just upgraded my ROM, i seen a thread on how to hard reset but can't see it about anymore, anyone got a link on how to do it? thanks very much, Nick There are a couple of approaches mentioned around here. But this usually works for me: Lay Omnia crossways before you on table, face up, with reset hole to the right. With right hand poke reset hole with something that works for you. Quickly with left hand thumb and first finger, press both hard buttons (answer and hangup). Wait just a couple of seconds while holding all three. Then release reset hole pressing. Keep holding two buttons until yellow on black screen asking to Format comes to you. This could take a few seconds. Stop pressing both buttons now. Firm Press and release Answer (left) button to chose Format memory. This will not format your My Storage (at least I haven't seen it do that for many times doing it this way). When it's done, you are done. Factory fresh Omnia! (except for My Storage-use File Explorer to verify this for you own sanity). This will clear any leftover stuff that a new rom might overlook is why you this before flashing. You are now ready to follow the Flashing instructions/tutorial. It is also advisable to do this hard reset procedure after flashing. I am not sure of the detail as to why, but many more experienced that I say to do it. So we do it! Now you can change settings and add any cabs and your programs as you like to make your Omnia special version for you. <_< Ron... UPDATE> Several comments below say not needed to hard reset Before flashing. A few do it. But all agree to hard reset after. Above steps should work for that. I have read many posts (one just now) where a strange thing was happening after flash and then they would update post that a hard reset after flash fixed it. Sounds right to me. :) Edited June 1, 2009 by ronaldb3

Bad Flasher <_< But some say before is not necessary. And you should be ok anyway if you did not add many things before you flashed that would still have little pieces left in the registry. Ron... Guest kurniawan Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 i have never hard reset before a flash.... don't see why i should as i always do hard reset after a flash.... everything is gone that way too <_<
Guest qbus Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 as title really? i've backed up all my photos, music and contacts, but do i have to reset my omnia before i install a new ROM? No - there is no sensible reason to do hard-reset before flashing.

I didn't use to hard reset before either until I read something that might be true enough that I do now hard reset before flashing. "This will clear any leftover stuff that a new rom might overlook is why you this before flashing." Also I am curious why you hard reset twice after flashing. I've only read to do it once from posts of the more experienced posters. And John - why did you start resetting Before flashing??? And to Nick and other newbies-I think most are agreeing that one should hard reset after flashing, yes??? Thanks, Ron... PS--Does anyone thinks it hurts anything to hard reset before flashing??? Guest qbus Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 I didn't use to hard reset before either until I read something that might be true enough that I do now hard reset before flashing. "This will clear any leftover stuff that a new rom might overlook is why you this before flashing." This is not true. Everything added to main memory after flashing (or hard reset) is volatile stuff (in compare to not deltable files located in ROM). Flashing=erasing ROM & non ROM files. Hard-resetting = erasing only non ROM files. Also I am curious why you hard reset twice after flashing. No - this is just a waste of time. As a cooker I flashed my Omnia about 100 times and I've never done a hard reset before flashing <_<.
