Hard reset does not change your ROM back to its original state?

1) I thought I could flash any ROM and if I do not like it, i could do a hard reset and it'll be back to its original state, including its original ROM. Wrong concept?

2) Also, is it a must that i hard reset after flashing a cooked ROM, even though i've less than 1 MB of free memory space before installing a ROM. I used to think its fine, until i installed a new version of SPB over the old one, and what it did is first delete the old version, and while trying to install a new version, there is sortage of memory space, and thus installation is incomplete. That leaves my phone with lots of problem and i had to do a hard reset. And I'm sure if this happens to the ROM, i'll cause alot more issue, and possibly brick?

When u flashed to a Custom Rom and later hard reset, it will bring u back to the ORIGINAL STATE OF THE CUSTOM ROM. if your understanding of going back to original state is returning to samsung official firmware, u are TOTALLY WRONG.....

Ic, ok, thanks. That clarified my first query.

Anyone?

It is reciommended but not essential to do a hard reset after flashing a ROM as it gets rid of possible extraneous setup files.

If you only have 1MB free immediately after flashing a ROM, there is something seriously wrong with your installation. I don't know anything about the memory setup of the Omnia as I only have HTC devices, but you should have at least 50MB free Program memory and probably 50MB free Storage Memory (plus whatever is in 'Storage' which is the extra capacity of the memory available to programs)

If 'Storage' is not erased during a hard reset, then is it possible that you are trying to install Mobile Shell to this instead of Main Memory/Storage Memory?

What he said. Flashing with a custom ROM usually won't wipe your "my storage" memory, so if you are trying to install there then you need to clear some room (delete useless junk)

If, for some off reason, you only have 1mb of room left then if you try to install a program larger than 1mb, even if your are overwriting an older version, then it will detect that you don't have the space and stop the installation.

On a side note, it's good practice to remove an older version of a program before installing the newer version. Most programs will retain your user data (custom setup) after uninstalling the main program.
