any idea whether this version does the old 'disable-incoming-call-vibration'??

Posted

apparently this beata version can be installed on the memory card and it can coexist with preinstalled opera versions, will give that a try to see the difference between this one or the regular opera 9.5 which comes with the official ROMs.

looks promising though.

Both the Opera browser and Widgets weight together no less then 8.7MB, W0ha!

Happy testing! :D

8.7MB....uninstalled.

They are compressed. Opera alone takes just shy of 10mb.

FYI (copied from opera.com page)

9.7 beta known issues

Browser

  • Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile is still a preview-feature;
  • Downloads don't work while Opera Turbo is enabled.
  • Some settings (such as toggle on/off images) do not apply when Opera Turbo is enabled.
  • On older WM 5.0 Devices with 480x800 resolution, switching between portrait and landscape may cause display errors. This is due to lack of support for this resolution in early versions of Microsoft's driver.
  • Some input method editors are known not to work well with Opera because they do not comply with Microsoft's SIP and/or IME standard. When such an editor is detected by Opera, Opera will use a known (default) input method instead. An exception is EzInput v1.5, where the phone keypad and compact QUERTY, ABC mode doesn't work, but the rest of the modes work fine. We recommend upgrading to EzInput v2.0 to avoid this.
  • Only support for FlashLite 3.x. No Flash plugin included.

    • The Widget manager is an add-on to the browser, so the browser must be installed in order for the widget manager to work.
    • We recommend disabling Opera Turbo in the browser when using the widget manager.
    • Rotating widgets does not work properly. Portrait mode should be used when running widgets.
    • Widgets + Plugins (Flash & Gears) don't work.
    • Clicking internal links in a widget will launch the browser.
    • Twitter widget might have login problems on first run. If this happens, just close the Twitter widget (X) and open it again

If it's cooked in the rom the answer is no. But you can install it and use the new version instead.

But arent then all the "mainmenu" and M2D shortcuts messed up? They would still be launching the old version :D

You can modify the m2d shourtcut using ssmapa (i think that i've spelled it correctly).

The same goes for main menu shortcut. That's the beauty of winmo. You can modify it or just wait for a new version with the new opera.

So far I noticed:

1. Opera itself is faster

2. scrolling is smoother but slower (in my opinion)

3. cant import bookmarks from Opera 9.5 but IE works fine (sucks for me I have 70 bookmarks lol)

4. Turbo is nice but not particle till some stuff is fixed

I hope Beta 2 will fix turbo since it looks useful for when not using AS or WiFi.

Samsung keyboard and flash 3.1 are working perfectly for me (using s0cks latest rom)... you tube is def smoother.

Is the adjustable zoom slider still working in this version?? (used to be on right hand side of screen), as can't find in this version.

Thanks

For people that just want the looks of the newer opera 9.7b you can also just use the newer white skin on the older black v9.5.

Just place the file "standard_skin.zip" in the following default directory: "\\My Device\Application Data\opera9\skin\" or another location where you installed it...

standard_skin.zip

tried it and found that it is actually faster than the opera 9.5 but still has a lot of issues, i guess this is why it is still in beta stage.

when putting on the turbo mode, it doesnt display webpages at all. the scrolling is much smoother and the zooming is way faster now. but even with flash player installed, and the turbo mode disabled, it displays webpages wrongly for me, like for example yahoo, it messes up the whole page and i get a page which is like a mile long to scroll and huge empty spaces in between. looks are definitely more sleek, but practically its really not good.
