Ok, so i've had my omnia for about 4 months, really didn't like Windows Mobile at all, so I finally decided to google alternative OS for Samsung Omnia, and a thread for Android on the Omnia came up to this site, than I started browsing the site more and more, and saw all these cool things you could do. Than I saw it, Unlocked GPS for Omnia i910 (Boy, was I happy). Than I saw you had to flash you omnia and than i saw in big red bold letters, Brick is possible, I was kind of scared and didn't want to do it. Than I decided to do it, so I flased the CC20 (I think thats what its called). and than Wozzers 6.5 ROM.

I was happy that the I made it through safely, but now I need a GPS to actually use! So I was just wondering whats the best GPS app out there for the i910, I tried iGo8, but really didn't like it. Google Maps is alright (I guess.) but wasn't very customizable nor did it do the job I needed it to do.

I was looking for things like Custom Voices, If a car is visble maybe custom cars? As long as it has a north american map, I don't mind trying it.

Edit:

Also, If anyone has a recommend ROM to try out, I'll be sure to do. Might as well become a Flashaholic, If I flash a new ROM, will I lose my contacts?

To be honest I personally find iGO 8 the best navigator for our Omnias. It's easy to use, finds a quick fix to GPS (under 30secs) and has good maps. TomTom is great if you can get it working but you need to use GPS gate which apparently drains the battery quite a lot. Theres also Garmin that you could try.

You can customise iGO quite a fair bit by searching for skins thru Bing or Google plus have custom voices and cars like you want.

As roms are concerned, I like the official roms cause it has everything and I'm not too concerned with ram usage etc. Main reason that stopped me using 6.5 is the fact I love my mouse, I find it more useful then the d-pad especially when using the net or small buttons since I don't carry a stylus. 6.5 comes with MyPhone which can be used to back up your phone or PPC Pim Backup. Both are free and do the job. And yes, you lose everything when you flash a different rom or do a hard reset.

I'm kinda surprised that you didn't t like iGo8. That's the one I use, and (perhaps ironically) one of the big reasons I like it is that it is so flexible and customizable. In particular, it has good displays of satellite locks; ability to save specific pre-defined routes (not just addresses); and also works when I'm on a bicycle or walking (many support only cars).

Not sure exactly what you mean by "custom voices", but iGo8 will let you install any number of different TTS voice files and even select between them on-the-fly using the standard UI. Just Google "iGo8 voice" and you'll find them. I have several U.S. and U.K. voices installed (the British accents are rather fun sometimes). I know that there are also a number of collections of custom car files available for iGo8 - I've downloaded one, but haven't yet installed it.

Garmin, Tom Tom, and several other nav packages are also available for WM, but certainly iGo8 is one of the most widely used.

Good luck!

Alright, I'll try out iGo a little bit more, maybe get some more voices, etc, etc. Thanks for the tips and everything.

I use IGO8 and google maps.. I have been meaning to try out garmin but have not had the chance.. Igo8 works fine for me, and its pretty cool.. it seems to hang up on me with 6.5 but when i had it on 6.1 it worked nicely..

I have not tried skinning or custom icons on it though..

Try THIS THREAD, it was started when we first got the leaked ROM and the gps was unlocked. I havent read through it in a while but it should have some information you'd be interested in. Good luck on finding one you like.

I think that Garmin is better than IGO 8, because with Garmin, you can do a 'online search' which has more updated poi's.

For instance, i needed directions to a gym that just opened.

IGO wasnt able to find it in the search, but Garmin was.

Can anyone point me to the right place to get IGO8 for the omnia i910?

Copilot Live is also really good for the Omnia. You can download directly to your PC and Storage card from their UK website.

It works very, very well with the Omnia. Graphics are nice and maps are thorough.
