Guest Turborepu Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 i would not leave my conpany to go get an iphone.. once they offer one on verizon then maybe i will get one for my wife. I use my phone for more than just d**king around, so i need a good one thats why i stayed away from att/iphone.. at least when they start all using the same network and you can pay full price for the phones but have the flexibility of switching to whatever carrier i might be inclned to try out other phones.

Guest Jim McKenzie Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Ye my gps works fine and free for lifetime. So mate can you describe everything the iphone has that the omnia dosn't, just post it here mate thanks It has compass.. that`s good for the start \o/
Guest syrguy1969 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 It has compass.. that`s good for the start \o/ Here are a couple right here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-compass.html (that doesn't include the cool compass feature in iGo8 either) next???

No software can put a magnetic north detection system into your phone, that's a hardware feature. Just the same as no bit of software for the iPhone will allow you to have a face to face video call with someone without a front facing camera. iGo8 and all the other GPS programs that feature a compass have one thing in common, they can tell you which direct you are "moving", not which direction you are pointing when you are standing still.

You are correct, I agree, but considering the basis of this conversation, basically seeing the direction your headed is what a compass does, so if that is all that is being touted to make the iPhone superior to the Omnia, I think it is a perfectly acceptable comparison! Correct. But I want to know how much this compass effects the battery drain. I have a GPS with this function and it really drains the battery if it's on so I have to carry a few packs of spare rechargables. I'm not impressed if I can use a compass and my phone for a few hours. But it is a great feature for geocaching though. :D

With most devices, you can carry a spare battery or two and swap them out as needed....the iPhone????? Better hope your near an outlet with a charger!!
Guest Adrynalyne Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) Who needs a battery when you have a compass? If you get lost, and can't get gps, just whip out your phone, and a spare battery because your phone died....Uh oh. 10 dollar compass > iPhone. Edited June 9, 2009 by Adrynalyne
Guest Draconius Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) I will say the touch screen focus point system for the camera is pretty neat...however the quick video upload to youtube will be annoying because now everyone will be loading that crap every second... I agree with the focus feature, and I don't want to sound like I am bashing the iPhone completely, it does have some nice features, and is a cool toy to play around with, but for durability and dependability, I'm sticking with WM!!
Guest syrguy1969 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 (edited) LOL I thought so as well, but after a week on a friends iPhone, I went running back to my trusty Omnia. :D Depending on the plans, I may pick up one of the lower priced ones for $99 to use as an iPod, they are cheaper than the iTouch now!! Guest Mr. B! Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 WinMo/Omnia (plus a 100 others)/HandandGo(plus a ton of others) too many options too many choices confusing for the average person. Iphone/AppStore everything in one place....easy.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 So easy the average noob can use it. Sure. As for winmo options being too confusing, I prefer to treat people like intelligent human beings, not assume they are not smart enough to figure out what software works with what.

The appstore on iPhone is a great idea that WM is developing as well. As for the too many options/choices part...that is exactly what I and I am sure many others love about WM...the flexability, customization, and the world of apps/tweaks/resources out there. edit: Gee....imagine that...Adrynalyne and I on the same page!!! :D Edited June 9, 2009 by syrguy1969

I agree. But unfortunately the average user likes easy. I know 4 people who've gotten the Iphone after I got my Omnia. I asked why and they all answered it was easier. As for app comparisons, shotgun vs shootme.....I think shoot me wins. There are a few "Iphone killers" that in my opinion really just make wonder why anyone would want an Iphone, but until WinMo and one of the appsites like handandgo really get together and market themselves together iphone will stay on top.
Guest Turb0wned Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Welcome aboard. When you make the switch to the iphone you will realize that as much as you liked your Omnia and in my case the HD also they just dont compare.. All other phones are light years behind. I love these forums and had more fun here than on iphone forums which is why i still come by and read some threads but will never good back to another phone. BTW I sold my 3G yesterday and pre-ordered my iphone 3G S.
Guest nickmoutia Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 Have they just caught up? Still no turn by turn navi.! no flash And it will cost a fortune.
Guest syrguy1969 Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 I think it is really all relative...some prefer iPhone, some prefer WM and yet others BB, Palm...... I have used the iPhone, and it didn't function half as well as my Omnia does now. My internet is faster, Office apps run better, it is highly customizable, the screen is more responsive...I could go on. The iPhone has it's strong points...the screen resolution is great, multi touch screen is good (needs better responsiveness though) and the app store is a good feature. I think it is great people back their decision to go to different devices, but in the end one device isn't 100% better than another, a person has to find the one that works best for them.
Guest Turb0wned Posted June 9, 2009 Report Posted June 9, 2009 There is turn by turn navi matter of fact. TOMTOM.
