Guest Rob V Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 How to configure mail inbox point to storage card? Please guide me as i want to save my precious device memory. You need to use a registry editor and add (or change, if they already exist) the following string values: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings: AttachPath = [path to desired folder for attachments] PropertyPath = [path to desired folder for Inbox contents] For example, mine are now set as follows: AttachPath = \My Storage\Messaging\Attachments PropertyPath = \My Storage\Messaging Also, copy and paste those same two keys & values into the following locations: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MAPI I'm sure that these two reg keys don't need to be added to all four locations, but I've read conflicting info as to which location actually controls this function... so I simply add them to all four to be on the safe side, and it always works perfectly. (If anyone can tell me the one 'right' location for the two reg keys, I'd love to know!) Make these registry changes BEFORE you configure your email account, because Pocket Outlook will not automatically move your Inbox items from the old (i.e., \Windows\Messaging) to the new location. I'd also suggest doing a soft reset after making the reg changes, and then checking the registry to be sure the changes "stuck" after the reboot (I had some problems with this at the beginning). Good luck!

Guest kenneth-kofi Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 how do u create these paths? I have PHM RegEdit. thanks
Guest dwallersv Posted June 13, 2009 Report Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) This works beautifully! Thanks for the hack! To move an existing mailbox, do the following before making these registry changes:Turn off any send/recieve schedule for emailMove the contents of \windows\messaging\inbox to the new target location for emailmake the registry changes as specifiedrebootEverything should work as normal. Another path that is good to change to help prevent low-memory warnings is HKLM\System\FileSys\TempPath; Default is \Application Data\Volatile; I copied everything over to \Storage Card\Application Data\Volatile, and changed the registry key to point there. This will cause any program that uses the system default temp path to put stuff there instead of in main memory. This is particularly useful when sending emails with large attachments -- the mail subsystem makes a copy of the entire message before sending it in the system temp location. Trying to email a video, for example, can eat up your main mem in nothing flat, and if it's too big the send will fail and the temp file will be left there. Suddenly, you'll have almost no main mem left. With 10GB free on my 16GB SD card, this ceased being a problem after the above change :D Edited June 13, 2009 by dwallersv
Guest karom Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 Further guidance from dwallersv is reall good. thanks to both the friends.
Guest natedawg1013 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Just to clarify, for any WM6.1 phone, and I have tested this, you only need to place AttachPath and PropertyPath in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Settings". All other places are useless. It took a lot of searching when I first got my phone, but it now works like a charm! :D
