Guest mikecw Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 With all the new W6.5 roms being released recently and consequent flashing, I've been backing up and restoring virtually everyday. I have used either PIMBackup or SPB Backup to bu / restore contacts, my documents and texts. However, I've just realised that MMS pictures don't seem to restore - infact when you click on the icon within the msg all I get is a blank file that plays for 5 secs. Having done a bit of research, this is a known problem with PIMBackup, but I've not seen it described for SPB... Is anybody able to confirm they can succesfully restore mms images with SPB? Are there any other backup programs people would recommend? Thx in advance Mike
Guest jukefox Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Hi Mike, I am also searching for an MMS-backup solution but without success. Did you find a solution for yourself in the meantime? Thanks. jukefox
Guest yojoe600 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 im looking too... but have not found one... i need to try spb
Guest jukefox Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 PIM Backup seems to be almost dead / out of development, so that we must not hope for any progress here in near future. The only promising solution seems to be http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/spr...up/full-editionSprite Backup. They have an explicit migrate-option. I have an outstanding question regarding MMS in their community. I hope for a positive response but there are people that could have been helped. The question is if it is possible to restore MMS even between different major versions of Windows Mobile and devices. When the OS version and the device remain the same it should definitely work fine.
Guest necosino Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Just save the pics to your storage card...?
Guest mikecw Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Jukefox - never found anything, and in fact have resorted to necosino's suggested remedy. More of a PITA than anything else, as I don't like to have the photos separate from the original message, especially as most of my MMS are work related. Let us all know if you find anything! Mike
Guest jukefox Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Hi Mike, yes, I will whenever I have found a practical solution. And just to be sure: By copying the attachment files (this is the procedure of the investigated backup tools) you lose the linkage to your MMS, right? And this is the problem you still have no solution for.
Guest jukefox Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Hi all, during the last couple of days I have tested Sprite Backup and SPB Backup. They both behave the same with respect to MMS backup. I do several ROM-upgrades on my Samsung Omnia II. The MMS-restore works fine. The attachments are correctly linked. Another scenario I wanted to know the behaviour for was when migrating between different Windows Mobile phones. I tested with HTC Touch HD from a colleague and my Samsung Omnia II. The restored MMS indeed have the problem already discussed above. I have done a bit more investigation and I noticed that two phones have different MMS-software installed. The Touch HD seems to use ArcSoft MMS Composer whereas Omnia II has Samsung MMS installed. So the MMS-attachments are saved in a different, proprietary manner. As the backup-software in the case of MMS does only restore the folders with files and doesn’t know of particular MMS-implementations the links to the attachments will be corrupted when restoring from a model with a different MMS-implementation. Finally I think it is very unlikely that there will be a general explicit support for MMS-backup functionality one day in any backup software. What a pitty.
Guest jms2367 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 even in m$ myphone backup service, the mms are not restored.
Guest jukefox Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 even in m$ myphone backup service, the mms are not restored. Yes. Your're right. And I have given the reason why: Microsoft has no own MMS-implementation and (of course) no support for the MMS-part coming from the phone manufacturers. If they had an own implementation, I'm sure that all the backup-software out there would support Microsofts implementation and handle that issue correctly even across several Windows Mobile phones.
