Guest atmt Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Hello, first of all regards to all the guys doing a huge work with new ROMs. Thanks a lot! I have a question, I can't find the answer for: what is the difference between WM6.5 and WM6.1? Is it more stable (I suppose not because it's still beta version)? Is it faster? Is touch screen response better? Is the battery lifetime longer? I use Lufeig's clean WM6.1 ROM with Wisbar Advanced Desktop and I'm quite happy with that. I don't know if it makes sense to flash my phone with one of WM6.5 ROMs? If it's only interface difference then I will stay with my WM6.1. I don't like Titanium interface... Thanks,
Guest celz Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 I am running 6.5 and I can tell you the reasons that I personally won't be going back to 6.1: - Honeycomb menu system: It's a lot prettier then the default menu system. When I say menu system I'm talking about the Programs and Settings menu page, and how it's just plain white background with all your menu items in it. In 6.5 it's this hexagonal system and it's much prettier. Still only an aesthetic change though. - You can do (pretty much) everything that you can in 6.1. The 6.5 ROMs typically do not come with most of the defauly samsung stuff (Samsung Today, Samsung Clock/Alarm, etc) but you can find them and install them. - If you don't like the Titanium system, you can install Manilla 2D which allows you to use HTC's UI system (TouchFlo) and it's a very good alternative. - MUCH better task manager system. In the home screen, the top right hand corner becomes a button for bringing up all the current running tasks. It's very friendly. - The clock is now showing on the top bar wherever you go in the phone (So you don't have to go back to the home screen to check what time it is) - iPhone style lock screen! (with the slider) and a few other things that I can't think of at the moment
Guest mnegutu Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Well as celz said, the menu system is in my oppinion better, but you can use the default start menu, it's your choice. The lock screen doesen't have any lag at all and is great, but again you can use the 6.1 lockscreen if you want. The task manager is just the HTC task manager, available on 6.1 as well. The major change is the dialer. If the screen is locked you get a slider-type dialer when receiving a call. You even have a slider for the alarm (dismiss/snooze) which is great. It does have built-in kinetic scrolling so that's again a great add-on. You can use the widget today, you can find the cab in the samsung app repository (use search). I noticed that i have more free program memory (ram). For example, with a fresh reset i get 35-37% ram usage, whereas on 6.1 i'd get 45 or more used memory. And probably that's why I find the battery to be lasting longer than on 6.1. Considering that 6.5 is basically a 6.1 with some add-ons that you may or may not use, i think it's worth trying out a 6.5 ROM. After all you've got nothing to loose :D Oh and I find 6.5 to be as stable as the old windows mobile. So not problems here.
Guest bpivk Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 One question. Does 6.5 have a new contact manager to add contacts? Because the old poutlook wasn't finger friendly and I absolutely hate it but I haven't found a replacement for it.
Guest atmt Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 Thanks for your answers. It's now more clear for me what is really new in 6.5. I'll definetely try it but I think I'll stay with Wisbar Advanced Desktop coz it's perfect for me. BTW: does anyone knows if WAD works with 6.5?
Guest JediKnightCZ Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 I personally am very curious about typing messages in WM 6.5 - is the interface redesigned in any way? Because the basic interface is, 'nuff said, basic - VITO SMS Chat helps a lot, but it certainly isn't without problems. Can someone offer any information about this?
Guest ronaldb3 Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 One question. Does 6.5 have a new contact manager to add contacts? If you install the new digitizer it really rocks. :D Ron...

Hi atmt, I am using WisBarAdv 3.4.3.1 and Mobile Shell 3 and they work with all the cooked roms from sector and khuanchai I've tried. Ron... T
Guest Pille69 Posted June 19, 2009 Report Posted June 19, 2009 the version 6.5 is slower as the 6.1 i am not sure is that the titanium s*** or anything else but you see it if you write a sms and close the windows to the sms overview (where you see all sms's) to refresh the screen needs approx 5 seconds. its not acceptable. i tested many of the roms but all are slower as 6.1. i searching for a most clean - no titanium or manilla or any other s*** - just windows and some tools but without any frontend. i will tell you what is the result regards pille

Thanks, I disable Titanium, and use a very clean rom version. It's pretty fast, the main advantage over 6.1 in my opinion is the improved built-in scrolling all over the OS even in drop down menus and most importantly the outlook inbox(no more one line jumping).
Guest atmt Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) Thanks again to all of you for this discussion. I've flashed my phone using Sector's lite rom yesterday. My first feeling is that except Titanium plugin there's no difference when using the phone as usual. Titanium is completely useless for me (too much screen tapping to get what I want) so now I have WM6.5 with my old settings (WAD). I wonder if there's any software which is prepared only for WM6.5 and it's not a Titanium plugin so I can feel any advantage of having new WM version... Edited June 20, 2009 by atmt

Guest Compuse Posted June 26, 2009 Report Posted June 26, 2009 Everybody likes the honeycomb, .. i hate it (I have small icon at "start" much faster) I hate the Platinum on the background since i'm using M2D along with SBP3 and Winterface. don't need something like a platinum menu!
Guest SnoopyDog Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 @aaak2000: Yea, you can do something: get a winmob driver SDK, information from samsung (?) howto and write a driver...
Guest Compuse Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I'm still using WM6.1 :D and I love it!
