Otoy brings Crysis to your smartphone (omnia)

I must confess I don’t really know what’s going on here (and who knows, it may be a hoax) but Otoy is promising to bring their server-side rendering technology (like Skyfire) to your local mobile browser (in this case on the Samsung Omnia).

Apparently the game streams over WIFI or 3G, runs in the browser, and the part that rings my alarm bells, requires no client-side installs. OTOY Chief Strategy Officer Mark Tseng says that the company is working on a variety of control schemes, allowing users to control games using a phone’s accelerometer, onscreen gamepad, or external peripherals like the Xbox controller.

very nice!

i need this ^^

i think he is using omnia only as screen and image is transfered through wifi/Bt connection. it's no way that omnia could process such game as crysis. but good one for annoyjing i-s*** fans :D

Could be done. Basically the same deal as OnLive. Computers run the game, then just send the already rendered video to your device, while your controls are sent back to the server. With Wi-Fi, and ESPECIALLY 3G i see this as a complete failure due to lag, which you could see a small amount of in the video. The 360 controller part doesn't seem right tho, it would seem he's playing the game on a PC, and just having the gameplay sent to the phone, which pretty much kills the concept. I would just like to say that i would never want to play a full fledged PC game on a tiny ass screen like this though (esp a shooter, aiming would be horrendous), plus it'll destroy your battery's charge in the process.

im not sure how i feel about this... that gameplay is way to smooth for it to be running on the omnia.. even skyfire lags some on the videos.

as for the controller, microsoft makes a bluetooth 360 controller

every processing is done on a PC, then PC streams the screen to omnia. so basically its just streaming.

yes i realize that.. but if you have ever used skyfire... even if yiou use a wifi connection it lags a bit... and on top of that your phone is processing the video and the controls you also have it sending and reciving information on the the net. i just dont see it running that smooth... they only way i can see that happeneing is with a basickly naked rom nothing else running

And what if they write their own kind of browser, game-dedicated ? Then the video lag issues could be resolved, for sure.

I don't beleive it. I have tryed this once on two computers on a game waaaaaay more basic that crysis and it lagged even when i was using a wired connection so I can't imagine the game working on wifi.

could be interesting with adventures games or other calm games.

it's really really stupid from them to demonstrate it with a shooter, as it would be unplayable due to the ping.
