I have turned off program sounds under sounds and notifications as that clicking noise when you scroll really annoys but I can't get the camera shutter to make any noise when I press the button. Am I missing something really obvious?

Can you make some program sounds sound and some not or is it all or nothing?

You can't mute the camera sound using the traditional methods unfortunately!

The only way I found was to create a silent wav file with the same name as the camera shutter sound. You then replace the noisy one in your phones windows folder with the silent

(you could use the one I attached for you :D )

OBVIOUSLY BACKUP THE ORIGINAL SOUNDS FILES FIRST JUST INCASE YOU WANT THEM BACK!!

With that done, copy the attached file to your phone, then use a file explorer to copy it to your windows folder (overwriting when asked).

To switch the sound off, goto your camera settings and select Shutter01 as the sound and you should hear nothing when you take a shot - (Obviously you won't be abusing this new found silence by taking shots of innocent and unsuspecting women!! - will you??)

For those that are interested you can also mute a number of other annoying sounds by renaming the Silent wav attached and copying it over the noisy original in your windows folder.

These include:

The noise when the PIN request screen comes on during bootup - replace Alarm2.wav

The sound when the camera focuses - replace AutoFocus.wav

The sound when the phone boots up - replace PowerOn.wav

The sound when the phone shuts down - replace PowerOff.wav

The sound when video starts recording - replace StartRecording.wav

The sound when video stops recording - replace StopRecording.wav

The annoying beep when you hit the green key after entering a number - replace dpadctl.wav

Last, but certainly not least, the sound when you plug in power (which always woke my wife up when I tried to sneak into bed at 2am!) - replace EarJack.wav

I hope that helps

Thank you for the reply. I wasn't very clear in my OP. I want the shutter sound to work but it doesn't seem to when program noises are switched off.

I just like the sound of it. It makes it feel like something is happening.

I doubt there's a way around that, unfortunately :D The camera shutter is a system sound, so muting system sounds mutes the camera shutter.

Actually, you OP was fine, it was my interpretation that was at fault :D

So you need to have system volume on to get the camera sound, but you dont want the scrolling sound....

You could try copying all the .wav files from your phones windows folder and put them on your PC. Play each sound your PC until you find the one that you hear when you scroll (this is the one you want to remove right!?)

When you know what its called, use the silent Shutter01.wav file I attached above but rename it to be identical to your annoying scrolling sound. Then simply copy that back to your phones Windows folder. That should do the tirck (might need a restart first!)

Let me know how you get on!

you can also install FTouchSL 2.10......just install dont configure. This will silence scroll ticking, plus the flow of pages will be alot smoother. Can't live without it! hope this helps

The file is called MenuPop. I couldn't replace it or anything as it was a ROM file.

I installed FTouchSL and the annoying noise has stopped. I am so pleased. It was just one of those noises that wouldn't leave your brain. If it was a nicer noise it wouldn't have been so bad.

Thank you for everyones help. I am now back to loving my Omnia. :D

You should be able to copy it to your phone from your pc, then using file explorer on your phone you should be able to copy the file to the windows folder. It will then ask you if you want to overwrite the original (the fact that its in the ROM shouldnt stop this!)

I know this works as that is how I did mine - I couldn't remember what menupop.wav was for so I didnt list it above! :D

Glad you got it sorted anyway.

I just tried that as well and it did work. When I was trying to put the file into the Windows folder before it wouldn't let me. Why can you move a file into there but it wouldn't let me copy and paste or whatever else I tried to do? Why is move different to send to or paste? I am too curious, I should just accept it. :D
