Guest HellboyMC Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Im trying out Point UI on my omnia, seems pretty cool thus far. Does anyone use or have used it? What are your thoughts? I just put it on my omnia, i must say i like it, except that i would like a different skin, but dont know where to get it, it's very finger friendly, you need a lot less pressure for things to respond, it's easy to use, only weakness so far i found is that you dont have enough cities for weather, well the one i live in isn't on the list.
Guest Chugworth Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 I love Pointui. I've been using it for a few months now, and I even bought the full version of it. It's very customizable and it responds well to touch. It also feels a lot less bloated than some of the other UIs out there. i would like a different skin, but dont know where to get it http://community.pointui.com/topic/themes-the-themes-store only weakness so far i found is that you dont have enough cities for weather, well the one i live in isn't on the list. Well with Pointui's default weather applet, you can add your city manually by editing the configuration file. But I would recommend using the 5 days forecast applet. You can pick up basically any city that's listed on AccuWeather.
Guest corwest Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 So do you know how to get Farenhiet to show on the weather panel? its in Celcius now.
Guest HellboyMC Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 About Themes, im not buying themes...about weather, i'll give it a try, but i would appreciate if you tell me what file to configure? Also the forecast program u gave me is in qvga, i need wqvga ^^

Also the forecast program u gave me is in qvga, i need wqvga ^^ Pointui is an extremely cool ui. The themes are all for free. It's not because it says the theme store that it's actually a store. All QVGA stuff work on WQVGA and all VGA stuff work on WVGA
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) Loved PointUI 2 on my older i760, but it seems too rare for WQVGA support, don't like the blank space left by QVGA applets, so i haven't bothered on my Omnia, (i really like the 6.5 titanium homescreen anywho.) So do you know how to get Farenhiet to show on the weather panel? its in Celcius now. Which applet are you using? i can get this the way you want it either in here or in a PM. Guest HellboyMC Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 When i try to download it says the download is restricted. :D
Guest Zealster Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I use PointUI exclusively. But it has it's quirks on Omnia. Some Windows events can crash it, and with it the whole phone. But it's relatively stable as long as the phone is for the most part!
Guest justpratik Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 do u have noticed? it takes more juice of battery then before.
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 They have worked on stability for devices with troubles (like the Omnia) and are always looking for information to help them fix battery drain issues (which are sometimes even caused by certain applets and not just PointUI itself.) They seem to have a rather small team working on the core product and improvements, its worth checking up on updates here and there, maybe testing applets and battery drain. As mentioned, i used it on my i760, but haven't on my Omnia yet. I got to version 2.0.30 and never had a stability or large battery drain issue, you may have to play around with applets or maybe an older version of PointUI to avoid certain problems, many applets/themes still have downloads for older versions of the software in their threads.

Guest StarVision Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Look cool , but too little function. Thus , it looks so low and cheap~
Guest DMRO Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Look cool , but too little function. Thus , it looks so low and cheap~ What do you mean? There's a dozen applets to add functionality there's a bunch of themes to make it look different. You just have to find the ones you like. There's even one that makes it look like manilla 2D (actually makes it look a little better). Just look in the community for the themes store and the apps store (they are all free, you just have to register to download).

Guest macoolit Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 i have spb shell, do i need to remove it before installing Point UI?
Guest TheDrizzle Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 If you use piontUI you MUST try the PiontSense theme. It is the best UI out there: http://community.pointui.com/topic/suite-v...v2-make-it-mine It makes your Omnia into an HTC Hero, almost ;-)
Guest necosino Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 i have spb shell, do i need to remove it before installing Point UI? Nope, just add point UI as a today item, and hit Show Today in MS3. Keep in mind that performance may take a hit while running both at the same time. The best way is to go into settings, then hit the menu button and Exit Shell, this will then bring you back to the today screen, where PointUI will be loaded.
Guest La Traviata Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I decided to give PointUI (free version, no theme or customisation) another try yesterday and noticed a few things that I would like to change. Any help or tips would be appreciated. 1) Is there a way to switch off the Google news ticker in the world applet? I travel abroad a lot and since it seems to be pulling the news in from Google this most probably results in unnecessary data charges. Switching off GPRS/internet while abroad is not an option as I have to have access to email and stock prices. I also noticed that my phone gets very warm with PointUI, even when I don't have any applications running, and I suspect it is from that. Alternatively, can I simply delete the world applet and replace it with flip clock and weather applet? I'm not sure what the world applet does apart from tracking news, weather and time (see my next point) and perhaps I'm missing something vital here. 2) The local time for the city selected in the world applet is 1 hour off. How do I correct this? 3) Is there a way to add more than 1 city to the weather forecast applet? 4) Is there a way to add Asian language supoprt or is there a theme that supports Asian language? I get quite a few emails in Japanese and in the preview window the headlines look like *&^%%^$%$£££$&%/&$£%. Once I open the email the Japanese characters are displayed fine, as my phone has Asian language support installed, but the garbled headlines really irk me. I'd also prefer if I didn't have to tap or swipe my way through my SMS and email accounts, but could pre-select which one I want to open (I don't use Outlook email so I always have to skip through that option). Many thanks! Edited September 18, 2009 by La Traviata

PointSense is a great theme and has taken PointUi to a new level.
Guest La Traviata Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) Hi La Traviata, If you go to the forum, there is plenty of help for the questions you have asked. There are plenty of applets that have clocks. PointSense is a great theme and has taken PointUi to a new level. Thank you, but I wasn't asking for an applet with a clock, I found that already. I also know about PointSense, since we have a thread about it on this forum (unfortunately I don't like the Hero look so much). I was asking for advice on some very specific issues and I was hoping to avoid having to wade though the large PointUI forum to see whether or not they had been mentioned before. Edit: after playing with PointUI for a week or so I decided to go back tp SPB MS3 because it felt a bit basic by comparison, seemed harder on the battery, I didn't like the message handling, many of the applets and themes I liked seemed to have bugs and some of the graphics looked fuzzy. That said, I didn't try PointSense, which seems to be more comprehensive and whose graphics look very high quality (mostly because it is recommened for ultralight ROM, which I don't want) so my comments only apply to the standard version.
