Guest davidmrrr Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) The physical keys on my original omnia stopped working. Under the 1 year manufacturers defect warranty they replaces it in a very timely manner, free of charge. Replacement 1: The screen had several broken pixels, My signal strength decreased severely, and the vibration was accompanied by clanging. I can just ignore these problems except for the poor signal, so i went in to the store and they mailed me a second one, overnight, and free of charge. Replacement 2: The Screen had several broken pixels, My signal strength decreased severely, the phone froze a minimal three times a day and in vibration mode it would not vibrate or ring. My third replacement is in the mail now. Verizon tells me if there are issues after 3 refurbished replacements under this warranty they allow you a brand new phone, it can be the same model or anything comparable. The manager at the store is telling me I could choose a Touch Pro. I dont hold much faith that the third refurb will be functional. However a new omnia could be. Mainly i just wanted to see if any of you have any input on the whole thing. As far as i can tell it looks like the omnia is the best phone they offer, and its been a blast to use, but this lack of a signal is making it relatively useless :/ Edited July 1, 2009 by davidmrrr
Guest sd1 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 i'm currently on my 4th omnia on my line and the 2nd on my other line. Still no options besides another refurb. And when customer service gets the call from me they say that those policies don't "exist" or "who told you that?" ... and on and on... Good Luck also there is a "time frame" that these replacements must be within each other. 3 refurbs within a 90 day window. Otherwise you start again...

Im deff in the 90 day window, im in the 30 day window actually haha.
Guest sd1 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I also have a sprint touch pro that i unlocked and flashed with vzw, but they would not add the meid to their network database so i can use it... Not to rant, but they have been making me unhappy lately. Off topic - they have also been over charging me for the last 6 months! but that's been resolved as i am getting the amount credit back. Good luck ;)
Guest davidmrrr Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 well, which do you prefer? which phone seems to work better overall and on verizon?
Guest sd1 Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I came to verizon because of the omnia, but i really like the touch pro (not their version) i just think its too bulky. Maybe the diamond? I would think its the same but i don't know. The touch pro to me had a better screen (vga) and responsiveness. But I'm gonna stay with the omnia for now. The touch pro was for my second line, wife is sick and tired of the omnia! LOL
Guest Rob V Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 As far as i can tell it looks like the omnia is the best phone they offer, and its been a blast to use, but this lack of a signal is making it relatively useless :/ My Omnia is also pretty poor in the signal-strength department. I'm on my second Omnia now (the first one had screen calibration problems) and performs identically to the original, so I don't think the problem is unique to my handset. My home is on the fringe of tower coverage, but my old Treo 700wx always showed 2-3 bars minimum and I had no sense of a weak signal. My wife's new Motorola flip (also on VZW) does even better. Both are much better in a weak signal area like this than my Omnia - I'm never seen more than 1-2 bars, and the signal is so weak that I can't reliably maintain an EVDO data connection (it flips back and forth between EVDO and 1X). So I wouldn't hold my breath on any Omnia replacement giving you great signal sensitivity. Like most smartphones (including the iPhone), I think the Omnia is better at being a PDA than a phone.
Guest jenben Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) People really need to do there homework on signal strength before they purchase a new phone. The Omnia is more of a major city type phone and not rural!!! Although saying that I live about 3hrs or 300klms away from my nearest major city in Melbourne and I get 3 to 4 bars of signal most of the time it all depends on your operator and area that you are in. My operator Telstra have a program with there phones that have a green tick for fully rural areas, I have a $99 pre-paid samsung with the green tick and has full strength just about anywhere you go. And although I am getting good signal with my omnia my home town telstra shop will not sell the omnia because of that reason. And I like the omnia pro so might upgrade next year? Guest Tim-H Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Hmm, that really weird that you got so many defectives in a row. I've had mine since the end of november and its still in excellent condition, except for some scratches on the bezel from being in my pocket with keys. Normally, I'm the person getting all the defective stuff so I've been pretty impressed by the build quality, especially after countless drops from my hands onto concrete. Before I ask a couple questions here I just want to point out im not trying to blame you for the phones being defective, just trying to help troubleshoot a little. Do you put the phone down in front of the exhaust of a laptop or in direct sunlight? Or any other area of high heat concentration?. When you take a shower do you unload the phone on the bathroom counter, or leave it out of the room? Maybe minor moisture damage from the humidity is what im trying to get at here. Do you keep it in your back pocket, or wear tighter fitting jeans and keep it in your pocket? Maybe stress flexing. Again, not blaming you, just trying to find some things that might help you in the future. Try to figure out what's causing all your bad luck with them.

I make sure to keep it away from heat and sunlight the best I can, I used to take it in the bathroom during showers to listen to music but after the humidity damaged the water stickers on my original i stopped. haha i do wear tighter fitting jeans but i dont keep the phone in my pocket cause im always scared that ill end up damaging it somehow. I really do apriciate the response and the effort though! i actually did do my homework on signal strength, and my orginal omnia, while weaker than other phones, still held down 2 bars in the home and full bars around town. none of these refurbs have. i just received my third one and am about to program it now. It really is a shame, because i think the phone is great, i agree it is better at being a pda than a phone. (and i hate the iphone haha) i hear terrible terrible things about the touch pro and the diamond so this is a pretty crappy situation. Edited July 2, 2009 by davidmrrr
Guest jaycarl Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 I can confirm that the terrible things that you hear about the touch pro and the diamond are true. Omnia is the best Verizon offers right now IMO. If you can get the brand new Omnia.
