Verizon pay for Exchange service needed for Google Sync?

Alright I've been trying to figure this out myself, but I've failed and was hoping some others with Verizon would give me a hand. I really want to use this service from Google. The page says the service requires Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol. Now when I was setting up my account with Verizon they asked if I wanted to pay for Exchange, I said no because...well I don't work any place that uses Exchange servers. So with that long and probably useless build up, I ask. Do I really have to pay Verizon extra just to use this service offered by Google?

Maybe I can shed some light.... I've been syncing my calendar and contacts with Google since January and do not pay any extra money to Verizon. It works great for retrieving my contacts and appointments after consistently re-flashing my phone with a new rom every other day. I forgot to add... that procedure only syncs your appointments and contacts. If you also want to get your google email on your phone use this method. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer....mp;answer=75725 It uses IMAP rather than exchange, that is why you don't have to pay the extra to Verizon.

You dont need to pay anything extra to verizon either way. They can not tell that you are using exchange just as they cannot tell you are using a hacked firmware. I have been syncing exchange for my corporate account on the basic unlimited plan for months without issue.

They can easily tell if they want to. Packet filtering is not rocket science.
