Guest omniaK Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Hey just wondering whats the difference between AMOLED, Resistive touch screen, and Capcative?? I played with Iphones and have an Itouch(that I never use thx to my omnia) but what exatly is the difference. I notice the Itouch/Iphone is unable to feel my fingernail unlike my omnia but the screen is so much more reactive to my touch, is window mobile working on any technology like this or is it something thats patented by apple? ;) sorry for my noobie questions but gotta start somewhere :D

(that's what i know .. i might be wrong though :D) and that's why you can't use your nail with iPhone, cuz it has a huge electronic resistant.. Edited July 8, 2009 by BlacKICcE
Guest Rob V Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 ... and that's why you can't use your nail with iPhone, cuz it has a huge electronic resistant.. Interesting. I've never played with an iPhone, but this makes sense. So how do iPhone users click those tiny text-only Web page links in their browser? With the Omnia, simply using the tip of my fingernail works quite well for this. But if that didn't work and I had to use a blunt fingertip, I don't see how I could possibly achieve enough precision to pick out one link vs. others (for example, the page number links on forum threads). Seems like the only solution would be to zoom way in so I could click the link accurately? Even assuming that the iPhone's multi-touch UI makes it easier to zoom than Opera on the Omnia, it still seems like more hassle than just being able to do it directly with a fingernail. Am I missing something here? Frankly, with WM 6.5 and the right scrolling tweaks, I'm now very happy with the Omnia's scrolling. While it's still a resistive screen, it takes only the very lightest touch of my fingernail against the screen for very responsive scrolling unless the Omnia is CPU-bound at that moment. It's hard for me to see how the iPhone could be a whole lot better, other than offering the neat UI tricks that can only be accomplished with a multi-touch screen.
Guest omniaK Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Ok that makes scence, but what I dont understand is why the screen on an Iphone is so much...i dont know how to explain it..."smoother" I guess would be a word for it. I mean id never trade in my phone for one of those and i really believe that my phone could do much more than an Iphone without trying, but when looking at the screen and sliding around or even just unlocking the screen, everything seems alot smoother, is that because of the capasitive screen as well or is that an OS difference with WinMo?

Well its also because the Capacitive screen, so you dont need to put any pressure on the screen, just touch it .. and also .. iPhone is based on Mac which is based on Solid Unix, and Windows will NEVER beat *nix on reliability, security and speed. and for Rob, believe me, its so simple.. my friend has an iPhone, and i really like the touch, its veryyyyyy finger friendly ...and its so simple to click on tiny links as the zoom is so fast, so its not a problem ..
Guest Rooster Misfit Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 this shows the difference between an amoled screen and a regular lcd screen as for the diference between the touch of the omnia and the touch of the iphoney. the omnia responds to actual pressure thats why it works with anything you use to push on it with... as foe the iphone its more of like the pad on a laptop which responds to the heat energy of your fingertips... tahts what makes the dual touch possible but there is major setbacks to that... if your fingers are wet or really cold it will make it harder to use which is why some people have problems using it in the winter and if you have gloves on your kinda badword...
