Guest jammasterk Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Hi I've had my HTC Touch Pro with U.S. Cellular service for a couple months now and I am thoroughly satisfied with the data plan as well as the regular phone service, but I was interested in trying to use the phone as a modem connected to my windows PC via USB. I found a few guides on how to do it with Sprint and they involve either using PDANet or flashing a different OS, which includes ICS, onto the phone . I am willing to try either of these options (I'm alright with a one time 15 dollar PDANet fee if it works well), but I thought I would check here to see if anyone has tried it with U.S. Cellular. Of course another big issue is what number does the "dial up modem" need to to dial? User name? Password? Here is a link to a forum that mentions using the phone number as the password and part of the user name for doing what I'm trying except with a blackberry. http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-71...s-cellular.html another link about using PDAnet with a touch pro on Sprint's network http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464512 This talks about ICS being better than PDAnet, but, once again, using Sprint. http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174517 Like I said, I haven't tried anything yet because I don't want to spend too much time on it just to find out that it's not doable with U.S. cellular. So it may be possible that PDAnet has the dial settings and username/password instuctions for U.S. cellular included, but I'm new to all of this so I'm not really even sure where to start. I'm going to continue tooling around with it and try to find the dial information somewhere in the phone's settings, but if anyone has some experience with this and is willing to help or has a link to a guide it would be much appreciated. Btw, I am aware that U.S. cellular offers a phone as modem service for $15 extra per month with a 5 gb limit, but i figured I already pay $25 for a data plan that doesn't have any kind of limit as far as I know so why not use it on my laptop when It's convenient. Also, I wasn't quite sure which forum this belongs in. I realise that there is an HTC forum, but most of my questions pertain to connecting to U.S. cellular's data network and are not phone specific. Does anybody know of a good, unofficial, somewhat advanced users forum for U.S. cellular?
