Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Hi All, How to Save SMS and Emails direclty to my storage or Storage Card? I know that we can save the attachments to Card but looking for something to move all this data to My storage
Guest Rob V Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 How to Save SMS and Emails direclty to my storage or Storage Card? I can't really say much about saved SMS messages because I just don't use them, but saving email and email attachments to My Storage requires a few registry changes, contained in the .reg file within the .zip attached below. If you have a decent registry editor installed (I use Resco's), simply download and click on the .reg file to apply the changes. Wait a minute or so (to be sure the changes will "stick"), and then soft-reset. My .reg file places email in \My Storage\Messaging, and attachments right beneath in \My Storage\Messaging\Attachments. Obviously, you can edit it if you want to put the files elsewhere. I always make these changes before setting up my email after a fresh ROM flash, so I don't have any current data to worry about (I just resync all of my email, contacts, and calendar data from a hosted Exchange server). However, after making the changes, you should be able to simply copy all of your existing email and attachments into the new folders from wherever they're currently sitting. (By default, messages are in \Windows\Messaging.) Again, you may need to soft-reset after doing this. Otherwise, you'll see the email headers in your Inbox, but when you try to open one, it will be blank because Outlook isn't finding the message file where it expects to. Hope this helps - it's a lot easier than making all these changes by hand! ;) rvonder_email_Attachments_on_MyStorage.zip
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 So, nice of you Rob. That solved a big problem for me. Just one more question as after doing that we will not have any problem for the memory size can we download attachment automatically as now we have to click on the attachment to save it to phone? Thanks again for the help. Guest Rob V Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 Just one more question as after doing that we will not have any problem for the memory size can we download attachment automatically as now we have to click on the attachment to save it to phone? Yes, you can - and it's easy: Go into ActiveSync, then click Menu / Options / Email. You'll see a checkbox to automatically download attachments. You can even specify the max size of attachment that will be downloaded, as well as whether you want complete messages or only the headers to be downloaded. I have mine set to download full messages and all attachments, regardless of size, and it works just fine. As you say, since it all goes into My Storage, there's virtually unlimited room so no need to only grab a subset.

Guest Rob V Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Any help to fix this error?..... @Lost: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm not really sure what to suggest. I am running Resco Explorer with the registry add-in. I just downloaded the file attachment directly from my posting and ran the .reg file - it asked me if I wanted to merge the contents, and did so without any error. I don't know if the standalone Resco Registry Editor works the same way or not. One thing you might want to try: Edit the .reg file, and replace the entire first line with 'REGEDIT4' (no quote marks). This is required by many registry editors in order to process the file. After that change, it may work for you. If you really get desperate, you can always print out my .reg file and then use your registry editor to go in and manually make the changes shown in the file - that's how I did it several times before I finally got around to creating a .reg file to automate the process. You're only creating two keys (PropertyPath and AttachmentPath) and copying them into four places, so it's not a horrible job to do by hand. But I'd try the 'REGEDIT4' change first. Let me know if this works for you!
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Hmm,, :D that Works. Now all of my emails are on My Storage, Many thanks Rob ;) . Yoy told me how i can download attachments automatically for EMAIL (that's Outlook most of the times) but i am using Windows Live for my emails, is there any option for that to download all the attachments during sync. One more issue regarding the windows mail again, it only sync the INBOX not all the folders, i can see the folders on my mobile but there are no emails inside. :) What do u suggest?.. @Lost: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Guest Rob V Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Yoy told me how i can download attachments automatically for EMAIL (that's Outlook most of the times) but i am using Windows Live for my emails, is there any option for that to download all the attachments during sync. I've never used Windows Live for email, so can't help you much on that one. I'm using only Outlook sync'ed to an Exchange server - I have all my email from every account including Gmail, Yahoo, etc. forwarded directly into that same Exchange mailbox so I only have to check in one place to find anything. One more issue regarding the windows mail again, it only sync the INBOX not all the folders, i can see the folders on my mobile but there are no emails inside. :D What do u suggest?.. Well, at least that one is easy! ;) - I don't have my phone handy, but I think if you open Outlook and hit Menu / Options, there is a choice for 'Manage Folders'. (If that isn't it, try pulling down the folder list, and then tap & hold until you get a context menu with the 'Manage Folders' choice). I'm almost sure you'll find the option through one of those two methods. Anyway, once you find it, checkboxes will appear next to every folder in your email account. Just check the ones you want to include in synching. You are correct that only the Inbox is selected by default. Note that 'Sent Items' is also not checked by default, so you'll have to turn that one on if you ever need to refer to items you sent to others.
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 So if i want to use this Exchange Server do i need to have premium accounts of Hotmail and yahoo or i can use the normal accounts (they don't have pop3 access).
Guest Rob V Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 So if i want to use this Exchange Server do i need to have premium accounts of Hotmail and yahoo or i can use the normal accounts (they don't have pop3 access). Nope - no premium accts needed. I have only normal (free) accounts for Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail. All of them will allow you to setup forwarding of incoming mail to another address, which is what I do. Therefore, I never need to directly access any of these accounts anymore, either through their Webmail interfaces or via POP3. To me, a hosted Exchange mailbox in combination with your own personal domain is the route to email Nirvana. Everything is automatically kept in perfect sync, regardless of how many PCs with Outlook you have (i have 3), WM phones, or Outlook Web Access (via any browser anyplace you might be). Folders, email rules, etc. are all server-based, so there's no need to duplicate these on each PC. You get true 'push' email to all devices instantly as messages arrive. All of your Contacts, Tasks, and Calendar data is synched automatically onto every machine, and any change you make on any device instantly appears on the others. The other thing I like about using Exchange is that all email lives permanently on the host. If one of your systems dies or has a disk crash, after repairing all you have to do is merely resync your data and you're back to normal. So there's no danger of ever losing your personal data. I don't know about anyone else, but losing my email, contacts, etc. would rate as a major-league disaster for me! Another nice thing is that as of WM 6.1, Pocket Outlook can do full searches on your host-based Exchange mail. I keep every email I've ever sent in my Exchange mailbox, and many of the ones I receive as well. Right from my phone, I can quickly retrieve any messages of interest from the present going back over two years ago! Anyway, enough of that - I think that anyone who's really serious about email and has more than one device (PC, phone, etc.) needs an Exchange account. My mailbox is hosted by SherWeb (happens to be a Canadian firm), and they are 100% awesome in every aspect - lowest price, large mailbox, quality of the service, support, etc. I've tried a couple other hosted Exchange providers, and they didn't even come close. I think my Exchange service costs a whopping $8.95/month, and it is worth every penny. They even throw in a free hosted Sharepoint account with 100mb of storage. ;) I use this in conjunction with a personal domain, which I purchased from 1&1 (they're the least expensive registrar I found for .com domains). It only costs $7 or $8 per year, so it's a no-brainer to have one. That way, you're completely independent from any particular ISP. I recently changed my broadband service to Verizon FiOS, but because I had my own domain and hosted Exchange, there was absolutely zero change -- unlike the people who have to send emails to everyone they know saying "I changed my email from Comcast to Verizon, so here's the new address..." You can also setup as many incoming email addresses as you want at no cost, as long as they're all flowing into your Exchange mailbox. Probably more than you ever wanted to know, but maybe this will help others who are moving into the world of mobile email and trying to figure out how to manually keep everything in sync!
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Very Useful, Thanks a lot for your time and effort. Appreciated.
