Guest CFitz Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I've had my omnia for 5 months now (haven't had the guts to flash to a cooked ROM yet, so I'm still running stock VZW ROM). I like the auto adjusting backlight feature that uses the light sensor on the front of the phone, but I'd like to see the backlight go even dimmer in dark conditions. It seems like the range of the backlight is pretty small. I've done some quick searches online, and played in the registry a bit but haven't found anything yet. Any ideas? Basically, a way to adjust the max and min limits for the auto adjusting backlight. BTW, this is my first post, so go gentle on me... ;)

I too like the idea of having just enough lighting to see the device and i've noticed that I can gain a significantly more battery life out of the Omnia by leaving it set to very low or at just the first notch.

So do you keep it in manual mode and just set it to the lowest level? What I'm hoping to do is to continue using the auto adjust mode, but have it go lower than it currently does.

I do have mine set to the manual mode. and I adjust it as needed, but 9 times out of 10 I leave it in the lowest mode and not bother with the automatic feature.

Guest necosino Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Or try Ageye (they brought you g-alarm, too) G-Light here
Guest CFitz Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Or try Ageye (they brought you g-alarm, too) G-Light here I tried both your suggestions. G-light says device unsupported when I run it, and the reg edits only affect manual backlight settings, not the automatic.

Its a task bar program that has a backlight adjust feature that will actually turn off the backlight, a good feature if you really want to save some battery. This should be a download link http://handheld.softpedia.com/progDownload...load-50800.html after you install and run the program, from your home screen click and hold down on the top right hand corner (where the 'X' is usually located) a pop up menu will appear and you can select brightness. if you press right below the bottom bar you can turn the back light off manually. - you might need to select manual brightness adjust in the windows settings Edited July 13, 2009 by too_cool1042002

Basically in a dark room I'd like the backlight to be at its lowest level, but that doesn't happen in the auto mode, instead it seems to be a few levels up. On the other side of things, using it outside doesn't really require much of a backlight. I think a light sensor being used to determine brightness is a rather good idea, it just seems like it doesn't go dim enough to really gain the most out of it. Maybe I'm just too picky ;)
Guest necosino Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 No, i totally agree. Cover the light sensor with your thumb and watch, it doesn't go all the way down.. and then if you hit manual with your other finger and bring it all the way down, it is darker than when on auto.. wtf.. lol

Its odd that they made the dynamic range of it so small. The feature seems very good in thought, but they didn't seem to implement it fully. I'll keep tinkering, and hopefully someone will come up with something.

When I plug in AC or car power adaptor back light lights up and every thing works like a charm. When adaptors unplugged back light stays on for a few seconds then dims and stays that way and will not adjust again. Same happens when it auto power off or when i manually turn off then back on stays at lowest dim setting. Adjusting back light setting has no effect at all. Has any one come across this before? Thanks in advance for any help
