Guest necosino Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 How are you even able to use your phone as a fax? This is something I've been trying to figure out how to do..
Guest LarryP Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 (edited) I'm using Blazingwolf's rom. That shouldnt matter, just a point of refference. Click on: Start, Settings, System, Data Connection, (I dont use VZNaccess not sure why it says this.)Then it says Data Connection: To use VZNacess Manager you should select "AS the modem through USAB / Bluetooth. Click OK Then choose between: Internal Data Call As the modem through USAB As the modem through Bluetooth. Sorry i asnwered so slow ;) Larry Edited July 18, 2009 by LarryP
Guest necosino Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Nice, thanks so much! I'll have to try this out tomorrow.
Guest dwallersv Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Okay, so this is simply a way to use the phone as a modem for another windows computer to send a fax from that attached PC (like a laptop, for instance). This is not a way to send and recieve faxes directly from the phone, right? Is there any way to do that?
Guest necosino Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Right, I just tested it and it works. Just set the phone's data connection to as a modem through USB, then (for me) windows 7 will use your phone as a fax modem to send and receive faxes. I've only sent 3, but it worked for all of them, and I haven't tested receiving a fax yet.
Guest Paul_Bunyan Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) Yeah, I've been sending faxes with it for a while now and it works great! Just like was stated early, set the phone as a Mdem through USB connection and Windows sees it as a just a modem and will natively send faxes through it. One quirk though, I had a habbit of always adding the "ATZ" (reset) command to the additional commands field on my older modems, but this causes very flakey performance with the Omnia, only about half the faxes work like this. So leave the additional command field blank and it's worked for me 100% of the time with Windows Fax and WinFax Pro. As far as sending faxes directly from the Omnia, there are 3rd party programs that can do this ( like this: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/133781 ), but I've never used any. Guest itb44 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Has anyone got this to work with XP? I've set the phone as modem through USB and plugged it into my laptop, but the windows fax console says "Line unavailable". I'd disabled Activesync and was not tethering. Is an extra step required to manually set up the phone as a modem under XP? Any ideas? Right, I just tested it and it works. Just set the phone's data connection to as a modem through USB, then (for me) windows 7 will use your phone as a fax modem to send and receive faxes. Guest itb44 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) For those who have it working, which modem driver does Windows report using? I have SAMSUNG Mobile USB DRIVER (4.40.7.0)v1.6 but I haven't been able to get the PC to recognize the i910 as a fax modem yet. I am using XP rather than 7, which might make this more difficult but shouldn't make it impossible. The driver I'm using came on the original VZAccess Manager CD (version 6.9.7-2165a), but I have not found any more recent drivers. EDIT: Kept trying, including loading the latest VZAM thinking it might have a newer modem driver. It seems to be the same driver (4.40.7.0), but the Samsung Modem finally appeared in Device Manager. Guest scubamike Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 As far as receiving faxes go, I use maxemail.com. It costs $2 a month and I get a fax number from them. My faxes go to my e-mail in the form of .pdf files so I can view them on my phone or computer. I just pay $24 in a lump sum once a year.
Guest itb44 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) Once in a while I just need to send a fax using my cell phone. Now that I know it's possible using the i910, I'd really like to make it work from my XP laptop. I've captured the modem log for a failed outgoing fax attempt from the laptop through the Omnia (please see below). Any idea what might be wrong? I also tried with a 9600 baud rate, with and without FIFO, but no difference. 02-11-2010 23:11:36.166 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\tapisrv.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.166 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\unimdm.tsp, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.166 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\unimdmat.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\uniplat.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\modem.sys, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\modemui.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mdminst.dll, Version 5.1.2600 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - Modem type: SAMSUNG Mobile Modem 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - Modem inf path: oem97.inf 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - Modem inf section: SAMSUNG.Install 02-11-2010 23:11:36.176 - Matching hardware ID: usb\vid_04e8&pid_6640&mi_00&os_nt 02-11-2010 23:11:36.186 - Opening Modem 02-11-2010 23:11:36.186 - 921600,8,N,1, ctsfl=0, rtsctl=1 02-11-2010 23:11:36.196 - Initializing modem. 02-11-2010 23:11:36.196 - TSP(0000): Monitoring 02-11-2010 23:11:36.196 - TSP(0000): Monitoring 02-11-2010 23:11:36.206 - Send: AT<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.206 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.206 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:36.216 - Send: ATE0V1&D2&C1S0=0<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.216 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.216 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:36.226 - Send: ATS7=60<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.226 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.226 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:36.226 - Waiting for a call. 02-11-2010 23:11:36.236 - Send: ATS0=0<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.236 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:36.236 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:36.296 - TSP(0000): Making Call 02-11-2010 23:11:36.296 - Passthrough On 02-11-2010 23:11:36.296 - TSP Completing Async Operation(0x000100a0) Status 0x00000000 02-11-2010 23:11:36.296 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_CONNECTED 02-11-2010 23:11:38.880 - TSP(0000): Dropping Call 02-11-2010 23:11:38.880 - Passthrough Off 02-11-2010 23:11:38.880 - 921600,8,N,1, ctsfl=0, rtsctl=1 02-11-2010 23:11:38.880 - Initializing modem. 02-11-2010 23:11:38.890 - Send: AT<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.890 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.890 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:38.900 - Send: ATE0V1&D2&C1S0=0<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.900 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.900 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:38.910 - Send: ATS7=60<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.910 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.910 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:38.910 - Waiting for a call. 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Send: ATS0=0<cr> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Recv: <cr><lf>OK<cr><lf> 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Interpreted response: OK 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_DISCONNECTED(0x1) 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - TSP(0000): LINEEVENT: LINECALLSTATE_IDLE 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - TSP Completing Async Operation(0x000103d4) Status 0x00000000 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - TSP(0000): Closing Call 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Session Statistics: 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Reads : 24 bytes 02-11-2010 23:11:38.920 - Writes: 35 bytes Edited February 12, 2010 by itb44
