Guest westy123 Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 sorry for asking a very simple 'noob' question, but what actually happens if you try to run a custom ROM with vista and connect up your device. Will it be immediately bricked? I've been trying to flash my omnia with an xp guest running in vista with virtualbox (with the clean DXIA5 ROM), and though it shows up in active sync, it is not recognised when i execute the Rom. thanks
Guest Lost-in-omniA Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 There can't be a better tutorial than one Sector put here... http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...00-omnia-phone/ Just follow it but i think it's easier to do it with xp, took me 30 min to have a lovely ROM on my hands sorry for asking a very simple 'noob' question, but what actually happens if you try to run a custom ROM with vista and connect up your device. Guest westy123 Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Thanks for the suggestion. I'd tried following that and several other guides to try an install either the official or slimmed down version of DXIA5/DZIA5 with no success. But finally I've managed it using a slightly modified version of these and various other instructions around on this wonderful site! Just in case anyone has similar difficulties updating vista to DXIA5, here's what I did (apologies if anyone has already suggested this). Basically, I was unable to flash the omnia with an XP guest running inside virtualbox in a Vista host (I think because of issues with the mounting and unmounting of usb devices). I had already changed the phone version to Singapore and changed the registry of the omnia to an earlier software, but as I could not connect to the omnia through virtualbox (and thus flash the hex edited version of DXIA5) I instead opened the Vista version of DZIA5 in a hex editor, followed the instructions here (changing the second from the bottom entry of i900DX to i900XX to match my phone), saved the file, connected my device via windows mobile device centre, executed the edited vista version of DZIA5, avoided the infamous "Incorrect software version!", closed my eyes, shat myself a few times and hey presto…..I am now successfully running DZIA5!!! Thanks to all for the great guides and instructions available here!
