Stopping data connections

I am having a problem with my data connections.

I would like to be able to set it up so that when I am in the 3g area (not roaming) data connections can connect as they please but not when I am roaming.

I already have nodata installed (awesome ap BTW) but I would like to not have to always enable/disable my connections.

I am not sure which ap it is that is randomly connecting but it is starting to cost me money and more importantly battery life.

Anyone know of an application that will do this or even a reg hack?

i am using WMLongLife. keeps phone in 2g mode and only lets it go to 3g when i open certain applications i have set up. goes back to 2g after application close and also turns off data connections after timeout / application timeout. have a read
