Default Email App Blocks Pictures

I've reverted to using the default messaging app on my HD instead of using Flexmail (which is good but not very finger friendly).

In the email app settings I have it set to download full messages and all attachments. However it refuses to download any pictures embedded within the emails. Is there anyway to make it do this without having to select them in each message. At present all it shows is a yellow sripe with "internet pictures blocked". Whilst I realise this is a security / privacy measure I should be able to turn it off.

Secondly is there anyway to remove the 'tap to scroll right' option too.

If anyone knows of a good finger friendly email app as an alternative to Flexmail I'd be interested in that too.
