hi,

i was wondering if there was a find the nearest "x" type app for the omnia ive searched high and low but no luck, i want one that basically tells me where the nearest cash point, cinema, petrol station (as examples) etc are. i have igo8 but its a pain starting up the gps everytime to find a POI or using a web based application to do the same thing.

anyway any app at all that could do that sort of thing would be great whether its in development or a fully fledged app, doesnt really matter. i know there are several apps of this type for iphone has anyone managed to succesfully port one to WM?

thanks

Try Bing for windoes mobile. It has that functionality, plus the ability to set a default location without using the gps. To top it all off, it even has voice search!

Check it out!

I do. Google maps is a staple. Just for what he's looking for, this seems most appropriate.

I meant how can the OP not use Google Map.

It seems to be just perfect for what he/she is looking for.....

+1 on this suggestion. I've always been a devoted Google Maps kind of guy, but the new Bing mobile app is tailor-made for local search. The best part is indeed the voice search, which works amazingly well and is perfect when I'm driving and can't use a keyboard. Say your location (or let GPS find you), and then say what you're looking for - either a category or the name of a specific business. Listings instantly appear, and from there you can map, get directions, or call with a single click. Very nice app - one of Microsoft's better efforts. (Would be even better if those secondary functions were also voice-enabled so I could not only search, but then select and call/map the business with just a few words and no keyboard!)

Bing is definitely the answer. MS finally got something right.

Just tried Bing myself, it's indeed pretty good, thanks guys.

Too bad it only supports imperial units for distance...

Are you by chance using the omnia 910 with the new official rom. If so what setting did you use to get the gps to work on bing, I cant seem to be able to make it work myself. Works amazingly good on google maps but cant get a lock on bing at all.

Yes, I am. I use "GPS Intermediate Driver". First lock since a flash can take 15 minutes--be srte not to let it go into standby.I also use the settings outlined here:
