Would re-flashing when roaming lose data connectivity? I realize that *228 won't work when roaming, but that the phone (NAM, etc.) can be manually re-programmed. I'd like to flash to Verizon's new CF03 to test aGPS, but I'm worried about losing data connectivity. I'm out of the country right now. I understand that for data to work when roaming, the first data session must be opened to an actual Verizon cell tower in order to generate the correct data keys. Is there any way to backup the data keys before flashing and restore afterward? Are the keys stored in main device memory or in my storage (the 8GB chip)? What, exactly, are the data keys?

I didn't have to do *228 at all, but maybe I was just lucky. I thought it may be a fluke, so I hard reset after just in case, but it was fully working.

It turned out that you were right -- the CDMA and HDR programming were both preserved during firmware update (at least using the UMDL method) . I did figure out a way to back it all up and restore using SamsungPST with i910.dll, just in case, but ended up not needing it. Interestingly, the programming even survived a hard reset of main memory (without resetting My Storage), FWIW. Now on to the better cooked ROMs :)
