Guest CPimentel Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) Hi guys. Recently I've canceled my home internet and I'm only using the carrier internet thought omnia via bluetooth PAN. Here is the deal: now I want to share this connection wifi my NDS and Xbox 360. How can I do this without using the WifiRouter or any software to create a hotspot/ad-hoc wifi connection? I'm don't want to use this 'cause WIFI consume too much power, so the device get hot too quickly and its stops charging :) (orange light on power button). I'm using Windows 2003 Server and already tryied the ICS, not working ;) . Thanks! Cris Edited July 23, 2009 by CPimentel
Guest Ingvarr Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 How do you intend to connect Omnia to NDS or XBox if not by using WiFi?

Guest Ingvarr Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 (edited) I did exactly this in Windows 7/Vista successfully by using "bridge" feature - you need to bridge "Windows Mobile Device Adapter" and wireless adapter in network/connections on your PC. Not sure how to do this in Windows Server 2003 - you need somehow to setup NAT/routing or bridging between Windows Mobile Device Adapter and wireless adapter in similar fashion. Not sure if its possible without third-party software, my experience with this Windows version was scarce. Edited July 23, 2009 by Ingvarr

I'll see if I have something similar to that on Windows 2003, if not, I can try Windows 7 and Windows Visa also. I decided to use W2K3 'cause it is the only one which allowed me to set 'share' to the Bluetooth Pan. Thanks, I keep you informed. []'s Cris
Guest CPimentel Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Hi. Bridge on Windows 2003 didn't work, but I dunno if I miss something in configuration. Now using Vista again (my W7 has problemas with VS2008) and I can bridge and share the NDIS connection but cannot do anything with Bluetooth PAN. The deal is: i think that the USB cable does not have power enough to keep the mobile always charging, I'm wrong? Is there any cable which allow us to connect to computer and charge the Omnia at same time? (sometimes I miss my Nokia E71). Will try to connect Xbox later, NDS seems to do not work with AD-HOC connections :\. []'s Cris
Guest Ingvarr Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 USB cable charges my Omnia just fine. It can not charge up to green light, but can almost top it up. I used it while connected as modem over USB, then shared this connection with other home devices using bridge to notebook WiFi adapter. Charging issues seem to be more USB-port related then cable related - Omnia seem to require quite a lot of power from USB port for charge to work properly.

I'm not using as modem, instead, I'm using the Connection Sharing stuff from WinMo. I don't use as a modem 'cause when someone calls me, it will drop de connection or give busy tone to the other person :\ For surfing is good enough the power from USB, but for large downloads... the device gets very hot :) Thanks for the help man. Guest Ingvarr Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Sorry, I meant Connection Sharing too - there is no modem in recent ROMs anyway. Yes, device gets hot, but why do you care? It's not going to be damaged, not as long temperature stay below approx 60C - its usually when its still possible to hold in hand without scalding.

I care because above some temperature the device stops charging. For some reason, my connection doesn't stay connected through USB, for some reason it is disconnection. Through BT it stay connected ultil there is battery charge. What is the ROM that u're using? I'm using the latest from Sector with WM6.5, I will try Taril's lastest WM6.1 also. Thanks, Cris
Guest Ingvarr Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) I am using Taril's 6.1, quite old one. I care because above some temperature the device stops charging. Does it? Never noticed this myself. Edited July 27, 2009 by Ingvarr
