Messaging screen comes up every 5 minutes on WM 6.5

I flashed my phone with the wm 6.5 roms since they got out. Now i have Shokka's version 11 with M2D.

But on every build the messaging screen would appear every 5 minutes or so. The thing is that only the top and the bottom bar appears and sets the current application (that you are running) in the background. You can interact with the top and the bottom bars but the actual content its not visible.

If i click on the center to get focus on my current application the messaging screen disappears. You can see in the picture bellow. The Sims game is running and the messaging screen appears over it. If you are watching a movie for example and it appears the sound would stop. That's the same for games.

Is there any solution to this?

PS: I have the email scheduler application installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438970), but i tried with out it with a fresh rom and the problem still persists

I second the motion. This and the "Programs randomly closing when RAM drops to 50mb," need to be addressed..

I actually tested the thing with the memory. I have HTC Task Manager installed and i opened 6 apps running in the same time. The memory consumption was 71%. But if i opened the 7th application the first one that i opened would close. And the process goes on if you open more apps. Basically it creates a stack of 6 apps that can run simultaneously.

Actually, it depends on the amount of free memory. I installed something that took more ram. Then i run the test again and i could have only 4 apps running.

bro.....this is not my ROM issue ;)

I never had this problem, and many others havent reported it either.

Flash to SHKv17.

I've been having problems on Windows Mobile 6.5 as well which is why I ended up flashing to WM6.1 untill the issues are resolved:

-Messaging/Mail would come up 'magically'.

-Today Screen would come up 'magically'.

-Applications (as well as M2D Today-screen) would close 'magically'.

This even occurs when I'm not actively starting applications, but while watching a movie or something (though perhaps something else like ActiveSync would start automatically in the background).

Although I admit to installing WkTask, even the new Start Menu closed 'magically', even when I set WkTask to exclude the shell32.exe. ;)

Something's iffy with Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Omnia, and Shokka9 this is in no way your fault. The topic starter specified it occurs with 'every build', and I can agree. Your ROMs are awesome, but WM6.5 is a bit rough 'round the edges. :)

This is strange...i have never had these issues, and i have probably used more incarnations of WM6.5 than most (except sector ;)).

It is weird. My Omnia runs everything with no issues, everything. If i had serious issues, i too would be using WM6.1 and still cooking for it.

I dunno, it's got me beat.

:)

I know lorin.bute wasn't having a go or anything..he is a regular of mine (sounds so wrong), he is at omnia.org a lot. And he knows i coolio with him, but i just cant get my head around why this would happen to you guys..

Maybe you install some extra task manager?? Or SMS apps or smth to casue it?? I am lost.

Shokka, i know its not something you did with your roms. I don't blame you, i'm very happy with your roms.

I guess its a WM 6.5 issue or something that i did or installed. I'm trying to figure this out. What should i not install to eliminate this problem?

what i do, is install one at a time and try to replicate the error.

Install one app, if dont have issues....install next app....try to replicate errors...keep going until you find the app.

Then i will look at that app for you and try to modify so it dont casue this isssue.

I dont have, so it is something you installing (i hope)

I've noticed the "Messaging" title bar being shown randomly, but tapping the screen just makes it go away. This i always figured was my e-mail auto updating. Currently on Adryn's CF03 6.5 Vanilla version 2, i opened a bunch of progs, got to 90% ram usage (93mb total, 82.6mb in use, 10.5mb free,) but nothing closed for me after leaving em all open for a few minutes. Just did this to test, i generally close things when i'm done using them at the moment.

Happening in Blazingwolf's too, at least the Night versions 1.0 and 1.1. Havent gotten around to doing 1.2 yet but I assume it will still happen. I thought it was just me, and since it really isnt such an issue (just hit the end button), I never brought it up. Must be a Winmo problem.

I have that problem also and i can say that i tried all 6.5 roms for I900.The problem is that when the message comes it ends the running aplication. For example if u are navigating with Igo it ends and get back to today screen. If u are listening music it stops playing.Very annoyng indeed.Lets hope that Microsoft can fix that.

That's what i'm most worried about, the iGO. If i run it in my car and i really need direction at that moment when the messaging screen appears than i'm screwed :))

Haha, well, that's actually happened to me quite a few times (on the way to places I'd never been before! Argh!)

As for the random program closing/"autokill" problems - you guys are lucky to be multitasking 6 programs. I can only manage 2. =_=

But yes, back on topic - "Messaging" seems to only magically appear if the phone is setup to check email accounts...so maybe if you can do without email it should be fine.

And it definitely is a WM6.5 issue, not ROM specific; I've had it on both sector's and khuanchai's.

I also referenced this problem in this thread, the first WM6.5 ROM I ever tried. In that post, I wonder whether WkTask is the application to blame. But I tested it some more later without WkTask installed, and while checking with TaskMan, applications would still auto close.

Hi,

I have tested Shokka_v17, Sector 23009 M2D and Khuachai 23001 and 21928 (3-in-1) and the only ROM free from the "messaging bug" is Khuachai 23001....

Dont know why this happens, it is not related to Manila since i have tried to disable it and go back to Titanium and the problem is still there...

Whenever messaging tries to download mail from my gmail account it happens....

Apart from the programs built into the ROM i use S2U2 2.04, G-Alarm, Touchpal, Inesoft Phone 5 beta 7 and Resco Explorer...but it is also the same set of applications in Khuachai 23001 3-in-1 that is bug-free...

I'm lost, i'll try to pursue this if i have time.....

Regards,

Zymmer

After some try&test research i think this is somehow related to Autokill problem...i realized that in normal situation messaging application will launch justo to check mail, but when AutoKilling issue is there some other process is killed, making phone to keep in that zombie-messaging state....

Silly question, but for those experiencing this: Do you have an email account setup? And does that account look for changes every 5 minutes?

I have an email account but its set up to sync every 60 not every 5.

Yes, the account is set up and it gets emails every 5 minutes.

Maybe try settings it to either update manually, or at a longer interval, just to see if the messaging bar stops showing up :)

I had it set to check every 2 hours, and it still occurred.

Manual update stops the messaging screen to show up. Its an expected behavior since we figured out that the checking for new emails is causing it. Why and how can it be solved are the questions now.

Ok, i flashed my phone 2 times to try out different things. The build is: 21728.

The conclusion is that if you activate the retrieval of emails every x minutes the messaging screen comes up and you can't do anything about it. It's a WM issue.
