Im ready to load the latest ROM and want to backup my phone first. What is the best program (free or $$$) that will backup as much data and settings as possible? I assume activesync is pretty low on the list?

such as call history, contacts, appointments, settings?, programs?, emails, text messages, camera pics etc.

microsoft my phone can do most of that - shouldnt really b/u setting from an old rom 2 a new one.

download my phone on ur phone now, if you dont have a live or hotmail account, create 1. Sync any options you want, then after new flash(most have my phone pre-installed) sign in and sync and you have all your stuff back

I've used both SPB and Sprite.

Sprite was a ton faster and worked on both my and my wife's old phone (she has an older Motorola Q9).

I use SPB Backup. It works for me, but I only really need to back up my contacts for flashing to new ROMs. :)

Second on Microsoft My Phone. The only thing it doesn't back up are settings, configurations, and MMS...and maybe call history

I use Outlook for my contacts/emails/notes

or use Myphone

try using one or the other not both

I just got resco backup but I havent backed up anything yet I think the biggest thing I want to back up is my contacts

and Outlook/activesync does that perfectly

I use PIM Backup. It works great with many features, but I have had problems in restoring files and folders. I kind of remember fixing this by unchecking "Binary Backup", but I'm not sure...

I use sprite also and just want to make sure sprite restore will work after firmware update. I want to update but firmware upgrades make me nervous and I am overly cautious.

i use Sprite (full purchased version). But after the ROM update, when i tried to restore, it seemed to work but none of the program would open. I had to hard reset, and manually install everything again. Could have been (probably) user error, but Sprite didn't help me any after ROM change.

I have used Sprite in past after a hard reset tho, and it restored perfectly.

I use PIM to restore only my contacts when flashing to a new or updated rom.

Many people report having many issues when backing up files, setting, programs ect.

It is highly recommended to only backup contacts to avoid having bugs.

PIM has issues with restoring large text strings...usually need to do the restore twice in a row for your INCOMING texts to restore (OUTGOING texts restore the first time). Not reliable in my opinion, but I don't care as much about texts and emails as I do contacts, which it does beautifully including your photo thumbnails. I would only recommend PIM for my contacts backup and call logs.
