Guest yzbob Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 i spoke to someone at 150 last night and they said the uk update that fixes battery life etc isn't going to be here till march. (presumably on the 28th feb it'll be availible in april)
Guest Yousaf Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 march!! thats just 2 long ;) ill try and wait as i really do like the spv its got soooooooooo many bugs! but if my patience runs out im gonna give orange grief and get my hanset changed even if its an inferior handset - at least then i will be able 2 recieve ALL my calls.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I think I'll just stick with the DK update ;) The main question is why such a delay? are they really waiting to see how the DK update runs? I'd like to know the real reason why they are doing the dragging of heels bit.
Guest almark Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I am not sure the DK update is worth it, see http://www.bornsloppy.co.uk/denmark-up.htm

(presumably on the 28th feb it'll be availible in april) Is this sure? I have heard that the UK upgrade will be launched -the latest- tiil the end of next week..
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I am not sure the DK update is worth it, seehttp://www.bornsloppy.co.uk/denmark-up.htm Taken from the site above -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) GPRS settings - these are trashed - you're connecting to the GPRS network in Denmark - mega $$$ ! Mine work fine just change the locale  2) The upgrade is specific to your ROM - so what happens when you want to upgrade to the UK version? Oohhh dear - you can't ... Uh-oh! Never heard of that one so what's he saying? you can't go back to UK? when I was UK origionally or is it a sorry you have updated already not again for the moment? 3) Internet Explorer settings are wrong Mine work fine and I have not changed a thing 4) Phone locale info is wrong DOH!! just change the locale ohh that's a hard one to do  5) This is a TRIAL update, not final. Is that definate? I have not read that as gospel (correct me if I'm wrong) I have found it works well and I'm glad I did it. It's like I have a new phone. This is the second time incorrect information has been listed on this site. If you want the facts stick with this site. The other sites DO contain useful info about SPV but where do they get the info from ;) ( Note my opinion only not modaco) _________________
Guest Yousaf Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 yeah i heard it would be arround 5 days on this forum somewhere for the new uk update and thats not a big wait - when i called 156 about a week ago they said they cant give a date (which is usually the case anyway) :s but i got my handset when it was released in november and been waiting for an update more or less ever since as the phone has had problems from the off - nothing major just lots of small things but its still the best handset on the market featurewise so lets hope orange doesnt let down the users that have invested in this handset.
Guest xanadu Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 i spoke to someone at 150 last night and they said the uk update that fixes battery life etc isn't going to be here till march. In my experience of Customer services, they will tell you anything just to get you off their back, and to give the impression that they know what they are talking about ;) ( Not just Orange CS ) When you are only paid 11K a year, do you think they really care ?
Guest jtsaint Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Well the Danish update has made my phone much better except one reather annoying problem. When u recieve a text and key lock is one the phone crashes and in my case i lost the text message as well. Alol the other stuff written aboe about the Danish update not being worth it is crap. I can now use my phone for two days before a charge and its much faster too use in terms of navigating around the OS I would be happy towait for the uk update till MARCH IF they get ir right and fix all these bograt errors - this is preferable to rushing it. Also will the update be downloadable via Ornage Update ( cause it requires falshing the rom I thought it might have to be via active sync? ) if it is and they wait till April its going to cost you a fortune on GPRS (11 mb)

When u recieve a text and key lock is one the phone crashes and in my case i lost the text message as well. jtsaint I posted this else where, the solution I found was to use autolock in settingssecurity. Mine's set for five minutes. Since then I have never had the problem. Hope this helps you. Also the update must be through activsync otherwise how can you flash the rom and keep the system running as well? Or have I missed something in that one?

I can now use my phone for two days before a charge and its much faster too use in terms of navigating around the OS I just upgraded my phone with the Danish update! It is a lot lot faster and it really seems more stable! I don't know anything yet about the battery life but I suppose it would be better. And last but not least I think I don't loose the network any more!!! ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I expect the udpate some time next week... P
Guest Treadsoftly Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Paul - yes, that's what i was told. Who did you get your information from? I really hope it isn't March.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I can't say unfortunately, but I did hear it from 2 sources within O. P
Guest Treadsoftly Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Ok, fair enough Paul - well, at least you heard it from two sources. Congrats on the MVP and the Seattle trip by the way. Well done mate.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Thanks... Last time I was in Redmond I did 5 12+ hour days... hope it will be a little more relaxing this time ;) P
Guest spikex Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 Your GPRS settings do get trashed but I managed to get the details of Orange for getting it back on. And referring to the post made by jtsaint, I would assume that Orange Update is part of your phones service and provided for free even though it does use GPRS. Even if it wasn't free you're still only paying £6/month for an unlimited service. I also doubt that it will be 11MB. I have heard it will be SPV GPRS friendly (i.e. wont take hours as 11MB would take forever) Flashing the ROM will also erase all your data and Orange are unlikely to force SPV owners to do this. Probably the only reason why the Dutch version had to be flashed was because it wasn't a final version...only a trial version
Guest akarno Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 "]Thanks... Last time I was in Redmond I did 5 12+ hour days... hope it will be a little more relaxing this time ;) P If you're a Twin Peaks fan, don't forget to visit North Bend, home of Twin Peaks.

Back up and running in minutes. Apart from the bornsloppy site please show me where it is officially written that the Danish version was only a trial. It was SUGGESTED that it could have been a trial on this site but nothing official. Lets get all the facts before we scare people. If I've got it wrong let me know and I'll apologize
Guest SPLATT! Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I installed the Danish Update this week. The battery life is significantly improved. The new Picture Manager app is much better than the original method of controlling the camera, and since it is free, is even better. Haven't used the Sound Manager app yet.
Guest Firaas Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Paul, tape us the latest episodes of Series 9, Friends when you're there - IRC is getting slow!
Guest Torben Vognsen Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I think I'll just stick with the DK update ;) The main question is why such a delay? are they really waiting to see how the DK update runs? I'd like to know the real reason why they are doing the dragging of heels bit. The Danish market is - for Orange and a lot of the larger IT-companies - a testing ground. The level of technology penetration is huge, and the market is small enough to monitor(and if you've sent out crap, the impact isn't that big... ). Thats the main reason, I've heard from Orange DK, that most of the betatesting was run here - and probably the reason they're trying out the update here. And - as it has been said in this forum - they've found HUGE bugs in the update as well... However, I personally can live with them until the next Danish update later this month.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Cheers for that good old Orange  fills you full of confidence don't they  On the bug side of things the ones that I can remember about ie sms while the phones locked and the profile ringtone. Workarounds have been made. yes they are a pain but like you said I can live with them as well. Do you know of any other bugs? sorry this forums getting too big for me to do a long search  I don't have the time ;)

Complete lockdown... Wouldn't want that, so no locking the keys, then. Also, there are some issues with the profiles, which you cant edit. Otherwise, the phone may go into silent mode, and you wont be able to hear it ring... Thats brilliant, Orange. Those are really hard-to-spot bugs, so off course you shouldn't have caught them before releasing the update...

A temperary fix but it works so you can still lock the keys. both bugs I listed in my last post so at the end of the day there is no major bugs that cannot be worked around quite easily. So I still stand in saying thet the DK update is the best thing that has happened to the phone so far except maybe Doom and GB emulator
