I'm starting to believe it is a fallacy? I've read through post after post in forum after forum and I get nothing.

I've driven around testing in different areas,

spent an entire day at the beach the other day with a completely unobstrusted view of the sky with no lock.

I've downloaded baf gps toggle, quickGPS, unlocked the registry setting for enhanced gps.

I've tried using Google maps, Bing, and Copilot 7

LOCATION IS ON, and I check every time

flashed new roms, reset and reset,

NOTHING IS WORKING???

can anyone help me please?

Try running this exe. I'd be interested in seeing if you are able to get any sat's to see you. It won't help you get a lock but it will help let you see if your gps is even seeing any sat's.

i'm assuming you have the official Verizon update?

CF03 running multiple roms (currently tech's latest)

Thank you very much for taking the time, I've downloaded the exe and I need to do some testing with it.

Should I expect to wait awhile or should it show me satellites instantly? In my apartment it shows no sat's so far, I will go to a clear sky park nearby and also drive around the city a bit and see if it finds anything

I'll try to get IGO8, I've used it before and like it, I just found a good deal :) on co pilot 7. I thought they would be similar.

so I drove all over indoors, outdoors, open sky, all over and not once did it find a satellite

only one other thing I can think of...

I did the CF03 update using the UMDL and not the official verizon/samsung program. It took and everything works and shows up but this is the only thing I can think of that maybe might have affected something?

Have you gone to settings - Personal - Phone - Services - GPS - Location ON, accept, soft reset, accept and select don't show again if prompted, and then soft reset again. Then try out your GPS.

Seeing that everyone else on their i910 is getting GPS to work, I must site user error..

Mine is having a hard time to get a lock too...i always get the WEAK SIGNAL msg from G.Maps. I mean I flashed the Released ROM successfully according to the thread...and nothing! It works like 20% of the the time..the rest it was just weak signal. I didnt use the UMDL to do the upgrade..i used the Verizon one.

It may be driving around that is hindering your test. To really test to see if it's bad hardware or something like that; go outside, where there is a clear view of the sky, on a clear day, and be still for 2-5 minutes. If still no lock in GPSViewer, I would say there might be an issue.

I have an i900 and my GPS acquires sats just fine. There's a storm over me now, but I acquired like 7 different sats. It was kind of cool!

bricked a phone using it

and the LOCATION ON has been enabled, I check it every time.

So nobody has any other ideas???

I have tried standing still under a clear sky for about five hours at the beach the other day, clear sky no trees. Also thirty minutes outside in a clear park today, nothing.

I downloaded Igo 8 also, it's GPS settings tell me that "GPS receiver is connected" but when I go to the satellites page it finds no satallites?

AHHH!

This sounds frustrating.

You might have a defective SCH-i910. Have you talked with your provider about a replacement?

Hard reset, don't install ANYTHING, just go to settings - ... location on

Then download BAF GPS Toggle. Go to your home screen, and turn on GPS Toggle (just tap it) then put your phone near a window or outside, and you should have a lock within 15 minutes.

What does GPS Toggle say?

it's set to on

I'm starting to think it's a bad chip

the only promising thing is that IGO8 says, "gps reciever is connected" but still no fix of anykind ever

GPS toggle doesn't just get set to ON... It will actually show you how many say's is has locked or seeking, etc etc etc..

Try actually following directions..

BAF Gps Toggle is a today plugin, I have to disable titanium panels and gps toggle shows up as the sole application, It is set to on and I apologize it does say zero satellites on the right hand side. I forgot the layout.

I have been following directions and thank you for your help so far

Have you tried calling your providers support? Maybe they can ofer some help...or replacement?

that is the ultimate solution, I wanted to avoid it but it's done. I spent 45 mins on the phone with verizon going through their common sense troubleshooting bs. I have verizon, went back and forth and then the tech temporarily activated VZ Navigator. We tried everything and again no fix. If I can't get anything with the first party software it's gotta be the hardware. New phone is in the mail and I made sure, not refurbished, new phone.

Thanks everyone that tried to help, I just wanted to see if we could all tackle a problem together. Thanks for the suggested programs and techniques. In the end it was most likely a bad GPS chip.

fingers crossed for the new one

I dont think its an user error. I have re-flashed the Released ROM twice trying to get this GPS to work. I basically tried every way possible to improve it and still nothing. Like I'll get a lock like 4-5 satellites for the first time then everytime after that it takes forever to get a lock. Of course, if im at the same spot then the lock is pretty fast but when I leave the spot and go somewhere else...it wouldnt get a lock as fast or sometimes at all. Im talking about places like a Walmart parking lot...the freeway....parking lot roof top. Don't get me wrong the aGPS is working fine, since everytime I turn on Google Maps, it automatic get my approximate area. So I was hoping after that the GPS will take over and give me a lock asap...nothing! I mean isnt that how it works? aGPS get you (triangulate) to the nearest approximate vicinity then GPS takeover base on the triangulate area. Im using Bgills Cooked ROM m2d version 1.4....and im not blaming the cooked ROM but something is not working. Maybe is the GPS chip..if thats the case I think I might get a replacement

For everyone to know also, in talking to the rep he mentioned one thing. They get the refurb phones straight from samsung and they do a small diagnostic but it probably didn't include checking the gps chip too thoroughly if at all. If you're having a problem on verizon call in and have them run you through it, make sure you're getting your money's worth.

I have a similar problem. I installed GPS Viewer after updating the enhance GPS (XTRA) thru Internet. Previously, GPS Viewer showed some Sats and then I can use my Samsung Mobile Navigator (SMN).

However, today it's always search for sats. I check and the XTRA should be updated and I did. But still no sats found by GPS Viewer or SMN. Looks like the GPS is off but I dont know how to turn it on - I already check the Enhance GPS & External GPS setting.
