Guest mcmilliron Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) Hey guys, I recently installed FtouchSL on my Omnia i910 and it has drastically improved the kenetic scrolling in windows contacts, programs, and settings, but it does nothing for my texting or email scrolling. In fact, I couldn't scoll at all in these menus untill I added an exception in FtouchSL's settings for both my email and text messaging. After adding the exceptions, they were back to the crappy scrolling with the annoying clicking sound. Is there a way to fix the crappy scrolling in email and texts? Also, the samsung Phonebook and the samsung Programs menu are not affected by FtouchSL. Do these menus run terrible on your Omnia? The kenetic scrolling couldn't get any worse on mine. Which brings me to my next question. I would like to change the Programs folder in Launcher to open the native windows Programs menu (the one that has three shortcuts in each row). Right now it launches the crappy Samsung Programs menu. Is there a reg hack I can use to change the link to the native windows Program menu? Thanks in advance! Edited July 30, 2009 by mcmilliron

Although you don't tell us, I'm assuming from your note that you're still running WM 6.1. Bottom line: There's really no way to achieve decent scrolling across-the-board in 6.1, because it doesn't have any form of native kinetic scrolling. So you end up with a hodge-podge of overlapping solutions: As you discovered, FTouchSL can help for some things; many third-party programs (like those from Resco and others) have their own built-in kinetic scrolling; and the "crappy scrolling with the annoying clicking sound" (aptly described!) was added by Samsung. Of course, many times the different solutions conflict and trip over one another if you don't get all the exceptions set up perfectly. When this happens, you'll see all kinds of weird behavior (or often, no scrolling at all). The answer is to simply upgrade to a custom ROMs running WM 6.5. If you're on Verizon, there are at least 4-5 amazing "chefs" cooking up some great ROMs (Adrynalyne, Blazing Wolf, WoZZer, bgill, etc.) They're all slightly different in terms of what programs and features are included, so some research and/or experimentation will help you pick the ROM that best suits you. But no matter which one you pick, I'm certain you'll find it a huge step forward from the clunky 6.1 you have now. One of the best things about WM 6.5 is that Microsoft finally added its own native kinetic scrolling, and it works wonderfully. The only catch is that all of the ROM chefs had to start with the same Verizon WM 6.1 ROM as a base, which still contains Samsung's weird clicking scroller. But at this point, they've all found workarounds to disable Samsung's scrolling, which lets you enjoy the smooth native WM 6.5 implementation. (Ironically, the usual approach with WM 6.5 is to install FTouchSL, but to leave it unactivated (turned off). The FTouchSL folks figured out a way to override Samsung's scrolling by using their own replacement touch driver, and this happens at the time you install the program.) You also mentioned the start menu and launcher: Since WM 6.5 introduces a whole new user interface (Titanium) to replace the old 'Today' and Start Menu concepts. My advice is to try the native Titanium UI first. Many of us have found that we no longer feel a need any add-on shells. But if you don't end up liking it, you can easily switch to TouchFlo 2D Manila (M2D) or SPB Mobile Shell 3. Most of the chefs even have special versions of their ROMs that have one of these shells cooked right into the ROM. The various WM 6.5 ROMs have now gone through enough revisions that most of us find them to be very stable -- in fact, I have fewer problems with 6.5 than I had with 6.1! So jump in and flash your i910 to 6.5. Once you do, you'll never look back. And membership in FA ("Flashers Anonymous") is free! :)
Guest mcmilliron Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Thanks for the advice on flashing to 6.5. I would love to try it but I think I'll wait and make sure that Verizon doesn't suprise us with a 6.5 update. I doubt they will. But I'll hold out anyway, that way, even if they don't release an official 6.5 ROM I will at least be able to get a cooked version of the final ROM. Untill then, does anyone know how to change the Program folder icon in Launcher to link to the windows Program menu instead of the crappy Samsung one? Also, dose the "Location On" GPS feature drain your battery faster? I wouldn't think it would as long as I don't have Google maps or some other application that uses GPS running in the background. However, my battery life seems to have gotten worse since I updated to the new official Rom. What is your experience, and does 6.5 give you better battery life or worse? Thanks
Guest bga7x Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 Rob V that was one Great post!!!! thank you for putting in the time to write that!!!!
Guest Keivan Moradi Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 The most important thing forced me to downgrade to wm6.1 was that the UpToDate do not working properly on WM6.5. I tried lots of thing to improve my wm6.1 touch: touch commander was a great tool but the scrolling was not that good as the ftouchsl. so I decided to use a ultra clean rom with SPB mobile shell 3 and also added ftouchsl. The important thing should be noticed using FtouchSl is that you should add programs with internal touch support like SPB mobile shell and resco explorer to the exclusion list of the ftouchSL.
