Guest Koofteh Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, I asked but got no help in the thread for the ROM I'm using currently so I thought I'd make a separate thread. I've been using 6.5 for a few months now, and it all worked fine but ever since I installed build 23009 from here the caller ID feature does not recognize the numbers I have stored. This means that all the calls I receive show up as unknown callers. Now, there's a work around to this... I live in North America where the country code is 1, and when you get an incoming call (even if it's local call) a +1 is attached to the beginning of the phone number. None of my numbers have a country code saved in the contacts though, which I think is normal because why would you dial a country code to call someone who lives down the road? I could go and add country codes to all my numbers but this would take ages and I'm worried I will incur long distance charges for no good reason. I'd appreciate any insight... it's really annoying to see all your calls in the call log listed as unknown. Edited August 8, 2009 by Koofteh
Guest AhmadMR Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) Hi, Koofteh! Try this method: First synchronize your phone to Outlook and take a backup (In case anything goes wrong), then on your phone use the windows original contacts (not the Omnia Phonebook) to select all the contacts... (this goes as followes: Menu-->Select Contacts-->All). Now do this: Menu-->Copy Contact-->To Contacts... This will make sure that all your contacts are really registered in the phonebook. The problem now is that you have two identical copies for each contact, to work around this you must re-sync your phone with Outlook, Then use Outlook's Contacts to delete the duplicated contacts, and after that re-sync again... Long trip I now! but it is easier to use the computer to do such thing than deleting the duplicates directly from your phone... Hope it works for you, since it worked for me... Thanks Ahmad, that worked like a charm... still a bit of a hassle to do, but at least it works now. Any idea what causes the problem? I'm fairly certain it just started happening to me with the latest ROM I installed. Thanks again.
Guest AhmadMR Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 To be honest, I don't know! I'm not an expert in such things, but I think it is a problem with the backup softwares and its compatability with WinMo 6.5... Good to hear that the method worked for you...
Guest grwatcher Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 The trick worked for me!!! Thanx so very much! :D  ;)
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 do you normally have area codes listed in contacts for local numbers or no? with cells, all numbers show up with area codes (in the US, not sure how specific other countries get, but i assume there is something similar.) My thought is that most people won't put area codes in for contacts that are local numbers. so 555-5555 (US example) instead of 123-555-5555. I've noticed when dialing out to a local number (not putting the area code in) that it won't even recognize the contact in my phone book, but it will if i add the area code (all my contacts have area codes entered for the number.) doing this won't screw up anything when calling people, and may solve the caller id problem easier than have duplicate contacts, and outlook is obviously the easiest and best way to do this.

I need to dial area codes here because we're on 10 digit dialling... the solution above worked for me though, and last time I flashed and restored my contacts with Sprite Backup it didn't break my contact and caller ID recognizes them without any tricks. So now I'm not sure what caused the issue - it's not area/country codes nor Sprite Backup. Hmm.
