First off, I want to thank all of you for helping me make my Omnia experience a good one. I've enjoyed customizing it with all of the excellent ROMs from WoZZeR, bgill, techmaster, and blazingwolf. Sorry, Adryn, I never got around to playing with one of yours.

After about a month of reflection, I found I wasn't using my Omnia to its full potential, and couldn't justify spending $30 a month on the data package when I was pretty much just using it for Google Maps. When I bought it, I had plans to synch my work e-mail and calendar so I'd have access to it out in the field, but after many discussions with our IT department, I found that they wouldn't allow it unless I basically neutered my Omnia according to their strict corporate security policy. I've dusted off my old LG EnV, and will use it until I can upgrade (probably to the EnV Touch) in December.

I've already done a clean CF03 flash, and will most likely put it up on EBay soon, along with the leather case and 4GB microSD card. Since I've only had it for 3 months, and have taken very good care of it, It looks like I could probably get between $120 and $150 for it. I'm really going to hate letting it go, though. :)

Once again, thanks to everyone for all of their help and advice. I've enjoyed my time here with the Omnia community.

I think you will either need to list it ASAP, or reduce the price, since the Omnia II will be released relatively soon, a lot of people may pass over the Omnia I and save their cash for the Omnia II (which will be around $300 retail, $100 NE2).

I'll probably put it up on EBay tonight when I get home from work. Actually, I may get the wife to do it, because I'm going to hate selling it.

I keep looking at my EnV, and all I can think about are the things it can't do, lol. Well, at least it has a physical keyboard, and the music quality and volume are much better than my Omnia. But then again, that's pretty much what the phone is designed for.

May I make a suggestion? I'm reading your posts, Angus, and I can surmise the following...

- Your NOT selling your Omnia because you hate it. On the contrary, it seems that you love it.

- $150 doesn't really seem like a lot of money to make from it so it seems that profiting isn't the idea either.

- You've saved your old phone, which you'll be using again.

Why don't you just keep your Omnia because it sounds like you've nothing to lose by doing so. Although it may be too much phone for your present situation, you never know... you just may get an itch to fire it up again somewhere down the road.

Honestly, under your circumstances, I would just keep it and just modify your cellular plan, which is something your going to have to do anyway when you switch back to your old phone.

Just my thoughts. :)

It's because Verizon requires the $30 data plan for the Omnia, or any of their smartphones, actually. There's no way to use it without paying the extra $30. I just can't justify paying it when I'm not really using it.

meabigbaldguy, I'm afraid that AngusATAT cannot drop the data plan due to the fact that he has his service with Verizon and in order to use the Omnia, or anything like it, you must have a data plan now even if the device has built-in WiFi.

That's a big rip! Then again, it's been quite a while since I've been back home and I've forgotten how VZ can be. Years back, I used to use them, but with all this stuff about exclusivity, I suppose that I understand Angus's reasons and sentiments. I still keep up a US line with TMobile - I use a Blackberry Pearl for that. But fortunately, they still offer the data plan only as an option. There's an idea...

This may sound stupid, but I don't suppose that there is a way to unlock the phone and make it viable with another carrier? Or has VZ found a way to hamper that as well? I can slip my US SIM into my Omnia and it'll work perfectly. I'm know that it's nothing new under the sun, but I'm just trying to help a brutha-man out. :)

Even if it was possible, I wouldn't use any other carrier but Verizon. Here in Georgia, Verizon has the absolute best coverage in the state. And considering I drive all over the state for my work, I'd be shooting myself in the foot by going with another provider. It's nice to know that when I am standing at an electrical substation in the middle of nowhere, I will have enough signal to make or receive a call. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or MetroPCS have spotty coverage at best in a lot of the areas I travel to, and absolutely no coverage at all at my house.

I doubt the Omnia 2 is going to be that cheap. I Would guess $300 for NE2, and $900 retail. The Omnia is nearly $600 retail. I see used Omnias on eBay right now (potentially) ranging between $200 and $289. You just need to find someone who wants an Omnia, and is nowhere near their upgrade time.

Hey Angus, not trying to change your mind, but I just wanted to share that I had the same problem as you. Our company will not let us use phones other than theirs for email and outlook stuff. I ended up figuring out the web server address of my company by trial and error, and set it up myself and been using it happily ever since. My company is kind of lax in the sense that if I get caught, its not a big deal, Im not sure if yours is the same. If it is though, you can figure out how to set it up yourself. Let me know if you change your mind, I can tell you how I set up mine.

I work for a major utility here in Georgia, and they are VERY strict about their network security. They have to be, because it's mandated by the federal government. I appreciate the advice, but I wouldn't be able to do anything like that.

It's ok, though. I'm sure my Omnia will get a good home. lol.

Angus,

We had a corporate user that wanted an Omnia, but wasn't in the group that had a data plans. We bought the data plan (he paid the extra fees) and then switched him to a "pay as you go" data plan, and disabled the verizon data connection on the device to prevent accidental access. Bingo, no monthly data charges.

He uses the WiFi when available and sync's his Outlook calendar via USB.

Not sure if that's an option for personal accounts, but we hate to lose a good Omnia user.
