Guest Marco1964 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Hi all My first newbie post.. I just got my Omnia last week and I'd like to upgrade to a different firmware. The standard Orange firmware is simply awful! I dont even have GPS, and cant get it installed as an extra because of the Orange firmware. When I followed a topic before with changing the phones version in the regedit.exe, when it came to uploading a new firmware it kept saying 'Download Failed' because after checking the phone, it said 'click to restart' so in order to continue I clicked it and the computer shut the phone down, but at the same time the computer tried to upload the new firmware to the phone and it just came up download failed. I'm using Windows XP to do the firmware install and have followed all of the guides on here... The details of my phone are.. PDA: i900XXIB2/BVIB2 PHONE: i900BVIA Could someone please advise me on where I'm going wrong, and would could be a suitable firmware to upgrade.. so that my phone would be unbranded, and I'd have my GPS, better WIFI and battery life would be nice also!! Look forward to get some helpful replies.. Thanks Marco :D

Guest Swoops Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Hi, I have an Orange branded Omnia I900 that I would like to unbrand. It is ROM version BVIB2. I have followed the instruction for updating to MSHJ1 to the letter and it appears to start the download. However, the I900 restarts and the updater downloads 'file 1' but when it gets to 100% it pauses for around 10 seconds and then displays 'download failed'. I then have to kill the updater and restart the I900 by pressing the reset button. It boots up normally, still with the Orange branding and nothing appears to have changed. I believe that it should download several files before completing. I've tried downloading and using both the Windows XP version and the Vista version but the result is the same so it's definitely something to do with the I900 or the BVIB2 ROM. Anyone got any ideas why it's not working or why it fails after 100% of 'file 1'? Any help would be much appreciated.
Guest Junoman Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Have you installed the Samsung Modem drivers for XP? Get it from here and have a go. J. Guest Swoops Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Hi Junoman, Thanks for replying. Yes, I did install the Samsung Modem drivers. I have now completely uninstalled the Modem Drivers and Activesync. I then downloaded them from the link you provided and tried again. I still have the same result - 'Download Failed' after the first file download. I have followed all the instructions to the letter and I don't have any idea why this is happening. I have trawled the web but I can't even find anyone who has experienced the same problem! I may try a cooked ROM but I'm a little apprehensive in case I brick the i900. I'd be a lot happier if the Samsung firmware installed successfully. K. Have you installed the Samsung Modem drivers for XP? Get it from here and have a go. J.
