Guest Master_Axe Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Hey, soooo... Kinomafreeplay find my song, lists them nicely and all... however, it will all of a sudden lose them again- i need to search again. in a lit of songs, itll skip one. It crashes my phone- frequently. Anybody have any other players maybe, that work similarly (aka idiot proof like itunes)? Thanks :D
Guest wackyiraqi Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 I have been using Kinoma freeplay for a while now and I haven't had any problems with it. Every other player out there is awful. I am hoping someone will port the new touch player from the omnia 2. WMP: Not touch friendly. S2P: Poor album view. Takes ages scrolling through them to find an album to play. Nitrogen: Good, but I HATE that i have to press through 10 menus just to play an album. Does not import MP3's into a database. Touch player: WOULD of been perfect except for the alphabetical song listing instead of by track number. I have tried a few others but they all have issues. Kinoma is the best one there, by far..BUT no AVRCP unless you buy the new version.
Guest semmtexx Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Kinoma Freeplay SUCKS on the i910 as far as I'm concerned. I tried to get it to work on several cooked roms and basically it would only run once. If I tried to run the application again after exiting..well it basically just won't open. It does say that it hasn't been fully tested on i900 or i910 though.
Guest brandogg Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 It hasn't been fully tested, but I've been running it ever since I got my phone in April, and I've never had a single problem, at least nothing worth taking note of. Keep in mind every time to flash a new ROM on your phone, you have to re-register your Kinoma FreePlay installation.
Guest La Traviata Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 I'm having problems with Kinoma Freeplay on my i900. I originally downloaded it a couple of months ago and it seemed to be running fine. Then I uninstalled it to free up some space and ever since I re-downloaded and re-installed it it hasn't been working right. More precisely: it works fine once it is up and running, but I can only exit/re-open it by doing a soft reset. If I try to close it from within the app or via task manager it freezes and then just sits there. Very annoying because I really like this app (and it used to work).
Guest wkmmx500 Posted August 16, 2009 Report Posted August 16, 2009 I had similar problems... not being able to close Kinoma Freeplay down. I had to use WkTask to force it to quit. After seeing the new features of the new version I decided to buy it and since then no problems at all. The sound is great, better then any other player I've used (and I've tried them all - i think). They have now included a smart way to close the application and also the rotating issue when you use the HTC sensor dll's has been fixed. These features are not yet available in the freeplay version (I think). I don't buy a lot of applications but this one is worth the money; great sound, fantatsic finger friendly interface. If you're a twiter, facebook, and I don't know what fan, they have included all of those features in the new version, with a very fancy "desktop". By the way, 've been using it on my I900 with several recent WM6.5 roms.

I used it mainly as music player and for managing photos/media files, which became too much hassle with the closing/freezing bug, but the new desktop and apps store made me want to try it again. I had hoped it had been fixed, but unfortunately not, so I'm a bit reluctant to spend $30 on the paid version. Edited August 17, 2009 by La Traviata

I used the freeplay version for over a year, first on my i760 and now on my i910 and it worked flawlessly. I decided to purchase the full version because I wanted AVRCP support for my stereo bluetooth headset, and the full version also works flawlessly. I've had no problem opening or closing the program. It has worked on the base ROM and all the custom ROMs I've installed on my phone.

I'm asking because, as per my previous post, the older build of Kinoma Freeplay worked fine, it is the current version I can't get to work properly (unfortunately I didn't keep the old .cab so I can't use that version anymore). From looking at Kinoma's forum, other Omnia owners are having similar problems. So if the current build of the paid version works on Omnia I'd be willing to try it. I'm using the same ROM now as back then, so that's not the problem.
Guest kdkinc Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 I bought the full version of Kinoma and at first liked all the options. The desktop features and various services are pretty expansive for a music player. I guess what I don't like is that it kind of a "hog". If you click on a picture or a mp3 it goes through a whole startup process which is kind of consuming and controling. Ar present I have reverted back to the standard rom picture viewer. I also like S2P player Along with SD WOW because its simple and not as controlling. Maybe in the future I may reinstall Kinoma . I like separate tools instead of all in one. My $.02
Guest wackyiraqi Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 I guess what I don't like is that it kind of a "hog". Does it use a lot of RAM? The freeplay version uses up 9 MB.. to be honest all I want more is avrcp, which doesn't come with the free version.
Guest La Traviata Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 I also noticed that Kinoma doesn't seem to recognise my files correctly. If I tap on "Pictures" in the Kinoma menu, it only displays 30 odd pictures, seemingly at random, i.e. from various folders. But it includes files from my internet cache, i.e. web pages I recently looked at. If I tap on "My Storage" or "Storage Card" it correctly displays all the folders and within them all my pictures.

In the full version. I don't know about the free version. You can download a advanced file program that gives you file control as to which file Kinoma searches for pics or mp3's. hope this helps

I guess what I like about it is it allows you to run a variety of programs such as Facebook, Twitter, LastFM, Flickr, YouTube, Orb, etc... without having to download all of these programs separately. In addition, back in the day, it was the only program that could actually run YouTube properly on a windows mobile phone. I also like the huge number of podcasts available through the Kinoma Guide.

Not sure if that would improve with the full version. I purchased it earlier this year (can't remember exactly when) but I've since downloaded the newest version. Thank you, it is reassuring to know that the current full version works fine on your Omnia. I emailed Kinoma support now, let's see what they suggest. Edited August 18, 2009 by La Traviata
