I love flashing my phone to a new rom or update of a rom but it is kind of a pain to have to go through and get all of my settings back to the way I like them. XDA_UC is great for getting apps I love like Batti and iContact back on my phone immediately and PIM backup is also great for contacts, appointments, and things of that sort, but I have yet to find a way to restore my settings after a flash. The solution might be buried somewhere in these forums but I haven't been able to find it. If any one has an idea of how to do this please let me know because it would make me a lot less reluctant to reflash my phone.

Thanks,

Bomama94

Sprite Backup will backup everything on your phone, but in my experience not every program is restored properly.

Best thing to do is use Sprite to backup your contacts/calendar/PIM and settings, but not the applications you installed.

Check out Sashimi. With it you can restore registry settings, including the chome panels, after a flash. For more info, see:

Use a registry program on your device, I use the registry editor in Resco to do this, and then export the items you need. This should create a file that you place in the XDA_UC folder to have that setting recreated on your device.

Thank you for your advice but I'm not really sure where to find all of the registry items. Can you point me to them? Also I will ask you the same question I asked dmcnado: Will this restore shortcut locations and chome panel info like my zip code and favorite contacts?

I dunno about Resco, but Sprite Backup can do that and you don't have to know which registry entry is for what. :D

Yes it can. Though all of the items need to be in place for it to work correctly. Like Favorite contacts will need to have all of your contacts restored or it will not work correctly.

If you know the reg keys though you can import them at any time as long as you have the files saved.

I'm not going to be able to tell you every location you need. It's easy enough to search for this stuff using Google though. That is how I find the things I can't find on my own.

Here is an example: CHome plugin

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CHome]

"Enabled"=dword:00000001

"Plugins"="CMyPhotos;CMusic;ATFavePeople;CHome;CClock;TitaniumWeather;CAppointments"

"ExtensibilityXML"="<Plugins Order=\"CMyPhotos;CMusic;ATFavePeople;CHome;CClock;TitaniumWeather;CAppointments\" CPRFileName=\"Titanium\" DisplayStyle=\"Titanium\" />"

"DefaultXML"="<Plugins Order=\"CMyPhotos;CMusic;ATFavePeople;CHome;CClock;TitaniumWeather;CAppointments\" CPRFileName=\"Titanium\" DisplayStyle=\"Titanium\" />"

"DisplayStyle"="Titanium"

"CPRFile"="Titanium"

"SMSMMSOverride"=dword:00000000

"EmailOverride"=dword:00000000

"SK1URL"=":MSCONTACTS"

"HomePluginGuid"="{892B90CB-9806-427e-8BED-F45C6A9E576B}"

"DockOperatorBar"=dword:00000000

"SK1TEXT"="Contacts"

I'm trying out Sashimi now. So far I've figured out how to use Makisu for my email, backup my registry files (which I assume will restore my data like my location on TitaniumWeather right?), and also set auto cab and exe installs and the location I would like each to install. So are you saying when I clicked backup registry settings it made it so when I reflash my phone it will restore my chome panels? Also what is the extent of the registry backup. Will it restore my Favorite Contacts into the panel and also will it restore the location of my program shortcuts? Sorry if I'm being too picky but I just want to make sure but I want to make sure I do everything I can in the Sashimi settings before I reflash.

Thank you for the suggestion it seems like the best idea for me.

In a nutshell, yes, Sashimi can do the things you asked about. Regarding the chome panels, first you have to back up your chome registry. Then after you flash, you have to set up the custom panels (they don't have to be populated, but just set up the basic structure/name). Also, you have to restore your PIM info (contacts, etc.) and also install any Titanium panels (that you install via cab). When all of that is done, use Sashimi to restore the chome registry. And, voila, everything appears as you had it before! I haven't figured out Makisu, yet, so you're ahead of me there. Any tips?

Regarding restoration of your program shortcuts, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you meaning the Start Menu? I have a few favorite cpr files that I keep backed up on my storage card (such as StartMenu_GridScene and Titanium cpr files). Once I have Total Commander or similar program installed, I copy my favorite cpr files into the My Device/Windows directory (overwrite) and, voila, my Start Menu and Titamium Today screen are formatted the way I like them. Also, I back up my My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder on my storage card and use Sashimi to restore it back into the Windows directory after a flash. That means that my Start Menu is set up the way I like it arranged. At one point previously, I used reSTART to group program shortcuts into subfolders. This technique allows me to keep this structure without redoing it every time I flash.

One caution... none of this is perfect, but I am now able to get about 90%-95% to where I want to be after a flash using these techniques. I've been flashing A LOT since I got this phone in late Feb and I've been learning this stuff (esp the restoration part) by trial and error.

Have fun flashing!

Thanks for your reply. I did a full registry backup which I assume includes chome. What I meant by restoring my program shortcuts is the order they appear in the honeycomb menu. I don't have reSTART so I just copied the My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder to the root folder in Sashimi and will just paste it back into its original location after restoring and will overwrite any duplicate files. The way I did it makes sense to me but if I'm about to mess up please let me know. Thanks for the instruction.Here is how to set up Makisu

Launch Sushimi go to Tools>Custom Tools>Makisu>Email>IMAP (these instructions are for aol bc its all I ever use)

-Enter whatever name you want, eg. AOL

-Incoming imap.aol.com

-Outgoing smtp.aol.com

- Follow rest of instructions

- Put none for SSL requirements, no to authentication message, no to configuration message, and yes to add to processing batch. That should do the trick.

The honeycomb menu is also known as the Start Menu. What you did w/ the My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder should work. It is basically the same as what I've been doing w/ it. As far as the registry backup is concerned, restoring the full registry might not be a good idea as there are likely registry changes triggered by the new rom that you won't want to overwrite (same reason you need to be cautious about doing full restores using programs such as SPB Backup and Sprite Backup). For chome, I believe the registry you'll want to export (& then import later) is: registry\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome

Make sure you are selecting 'Win RegEdit 5' as the 'Type' when you are exporting and naming your registry file. Otherwise Sashimi won't be able to install it. Place the exported registry in Sashimi/Auto/Reg or Sashimi/Manual/Reg depending on whether you're using the auto or manual method.

If you want to give reSTART a try (its free), you can find it here (about the middle of post #1): http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...le-6-5-goodies/

Hope this helps!

P.S. Thanks for the Makisu info. I'll try it next time I flash (in a few days).

I flashed my phone to 1.7 of bgill's rom and it was semi-successful. Chome worked perfectly except there was overlayed text on my first favorite contact saying select your favorite contacts and also my start menu shortcuts didn't go back to the way i liked them either. And i put all of my cabs in the ASL folder and set them to go to My Storage but they ended up installing on my storage card. I'll just have to play around with it some more i guess

.

See the link in your previous post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=75214

Go to about the middle of post #1, where it says ATCONTACTS(fave people). There it addresses the overlay issue and how to resolve it. Right below that they discuss Titanium Weather. These 2 techniques should help.
