Hi guys,

Can anyone help me with a little problem. I've been trying to install "Pocket DBExplorer" from www.phatware.com. But, so far, could not make it happen. I get "Installation unsuccessful" every time I try. I tried using activesynch and direct installation, neither of them works.

It happens that I have two omnias to full around with (8gB and 16gB) it does not work on either of them.

PocketGear, handango and other sites list this software as compatible with omnia.

What do I do wrong?

Following the topic. I am not a fan of the idea of flshing the ROM. I don't want to take chances of turning my phone into a paperweight. So, I was thinking about getting rid of unnecessary things using Pocket DBExplorer.

Since this software does not work I was looking for something similar to try but could not find any. If you know something out there, I am willing to try it.

Thank you.

It's really easy to flash if you have Windows XP. But Vista is really complicated. But flashing is relatively safe. I've flashed about 4 times and my last one I ran into a constantly restarting phone right afterwards. And after that I had to unplug my phone during an installation because of a phone flash error and I still have my phone. Needless to say, I won't be flashing anytime soon.

Not sure why everyone's so worried about bricking their phones... how common is it if you follow the directions? I've had three Windows Mobile devices, first one I got in 2002, and none of them ever got bricked and I always flash to new ROMs.

Also, flashing on Vista and Windows 7 is quite possible and pretty safe... use i900 executor to extract the different parts of the ROM and then use GrandPrix to flash them to your Omnia. :D

Do you have enough free space on your device memory? Perhaps the cab tries to install to the internal memory, regardless of specifying otherwise.

Also, did you install Compact .Net Framework 3.5? Might help too?

I followed the instructions and used VMWare (which sucked downloading/installing) it takes like 3-4 hours to get it ready for flashing (which takes like 5 minutes LOL). And as long as you follow the instructions, it seems to work well enough to not brick your phone. I didn't know you could flash using Vista though? o.o? Just extract and go huh? Cool I'll try it

Yeah, you can flash using Vista and by extension Windows 7 as well. At least I've done it a bunch of times with no issues, so I'm not sure why 'XP only' is still plastered all over this forum even though many people seem to have had success with it.

Look at the guide here if you want details.

Thank you guys.

I still have enough space in the main memory. I do have Compact .Net Framework 3.5. However, it is true that some programs are being installed in the main memory no matter what my initial choice is. I assume that some software requires this kind of "split" installation to work properly.

My main concern was "Pocket DBexplorer" installation, though. Has anyone had success with installation and use of this software?

Thank you
