Looking for some new apps & help

Alright, first off, I have had the Omnia for about 5-6 months now. I love the phone in general (hate WM personally, but ya). I have installed WM6.5, but when the official update came out I ended up going back to 6.1. After a few nights of being drunk, my Omnia was dropped several times on concrete and on MUD. So the right half the touch screen does *not* work properly. So I have a replacement Omnia now.

I am in the process of applying hacks (before I activate so I don't have to keep updating). I already ran the audio update registry fix, so we're good there.

So here is what I want to do:

- Install some kind of theme (Manilla 2D?) that has large buttons, sick of small stuff. EX

- Slide to lock

- Slide to answer

- New dialer that isn't fugly

- Good, free GPS software

- Possibly a good, free, weather service that doesn't keep my phone connected to the internet 24/7.. connects, then disconnects.

- Configure the phone to store *everything* in My Storage or Storage Card.

- Remove VZ Navigator, Shozu or whatever, and any other apps that are pointless.

- Make the camera automatically save to My Storage, in one folder. My old phone stores them in \My Storage\101SSCAM and \MyStorage\100SSCAM. Sometimes it even saves to Storage Card, not sure why, but its annoying as hell

- Optimize the phone so it doesn't get slow when I run a few programs.

- Any other recommendations

Right now I am using a out of the box phone, with the latest Verizon update.

Also, I was wondering there was an app that allowed you to use the phone as a GPS for boating. This thing is slightly smaller then a hand-held GPS, so I don't see why there would not be any programs to use it as a hand held ocean GPS (if that makes sense?). I want it to keep track of my previous locations, able to put in GPS coordinates, etc. Any ideas on a app to do that?

Flash to a bare ROM with little installed. Then just install everything to my storage or the SD card.

I use SPB MS3 for my user interface, and find it very finger friendly.

Look up S2U (slide 2-unlock) I've heard good thing. I just use WinMo 6.5's lock screen (also has slide to answer while locked).

Most of the custom 6.5 ROMs out right now are skinned with dialer skins that look a LOT nicer ;)

MS3 comes with a basic weather app that you can set to update every so often. Then there's a reg edit you can do to disconnect data after a certain amount of time.

There are different camera.exe that save in different ways. I use one that saves photos with the date and time as their file name, rather than an arbitrary number :D Also in the camera settings there should be a save location option.

The custom ROM's currently have larger caches (around 12MB) which allow more apps to run and run faster since they will have more resources available to them.

Thanks for the fast response! I've used the WM6.5, it seemed stable. But I want something that is known to be stable. What ROM do you guys use and what do you recommend? I'd like one that is tweaked already for the sound, etc.

If you want to try out MS3, BlazingWolf has a ROM with it cooked in and plenty of the bloatware taken out (see his post in the i910 ROM section).

Or you can try out one of the base ROMs for a clean slate (hartz or Adrynalin on PPCgeeks.com), or if you want something with a lot of customizations and skins, try out like BGills or techmaster :D

I really don't recommend this. Hand-held GPS devices made for boating and hiking are made by IPX7 standards (they are water proof) and (most) phones are not. Water especialy salty water can destroy your phone so just invest a 100$ and buy any handheld GPS device that's made for hiking or sailing.

Don't worry, we have over $1000 in GPS equipment. It would be a simple app to use in our small boat, either way, I'd probably still never use it.

I don't like the theme Blazingwolf's 6.5 rom uses. Any other recommendations?
