Guest punkmonkey1984 Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Right here's my question iv managed to pick up a free laptop, yes its not the best it was free, im only going to use it for flashing my omnia as my normal laptop does not run very good with windows seven and xp on diffrent boot loaders anyways i installed active sync and i got a warning about the only USB port not being a high speed, usb it says The USB mass storage device will fuction at reduced speed. You must add a HI-Speed USB host controller to this obtain maximum Performance, I really dont want to brink my omnia again, as im sure its just run out of its warranty, and cant afford another and deal with the heart brake lol, has any one flash with this message before, ??
Guest lonely2k5 Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 well your laptop doesn't support USB 2.0 it's not recommended to flash with usb1 but some did it and also some brake it... you can easily flash with win7 (no virtual xp or whatever) just use grandprix i've done it at least 100 times now...no problems in grand prix disable avto connect and then tap detect and restart the phone few times until it finds drivers.... yes it does it by it self...win7 is gooood

Guest lonely2k5 Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 win7 flash how to: 1.) get grandprix vista 1.6.4 2.) get i900_EXEcutor.exe 3.) get whatever (cooked) ROM 4.) dissasemble ROM with i900_executor 5.) run grandprix 6.) load LOADER, PDA and CSC (some roms don't have CSC - it's ok...leave blank) 7.) disable START DOWNLOAD IMMEDIATELY 8.) connect phone 9.) restart phone 10.) 1st time it will search for drivers (like MODEM DRIVER in XP) 11.) it woun't find it immediatly (restart phone few times until it finds it) 12.) repeat steps 9-11 until GRANDPRIX shows phone found 13.) when this happens you are ready to go 14.) flash the phone it's not 100% but i've done it with 5 versions of win7 (beta, rc, rtm...) always worked this way step 9-12 only needed 1 time..next time you can skip that i have also updated phone part once this way... the first time it didn't found the port....counted to 0 and no phone part on phone but retried and worked ok hope it helps....it's my experience so don't blame me if it won't work...

Thanks for the mini guide, altho i think i will prob get a USB 2.0 2 Port PCMCIA Laptop Card there only like £10-£20 i think in the long run its cheaper and safer this way, i dont need to update my omnia but the new rom's and sys's are looking rather tempting, and i think this is the safest route to go by waiting a few more days and have faith that it will work, as im very sceptical with non XP machine's to there reliability, but thanks again for the Guide, hopfully someone else will use it,
Guest rappetor Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 And don't forget! Keep the laptop plugged in. Especially when it's an older laptop, sometimes they do funky things with battery life :D. Or.. like me.. you forget to charge the laptop and during flashing it suddenly decides to threaten you to go into standby ;). Good thing I was fast grabbing the charger I guess .
