I seem to have a problem that unless I have the "use only 2g" selected I can not make or receive phone calls at home on my Hero when its connected with the H showing.

Any ideas?

did you get a new sim card with the phone? If you have an old sim card you won't get 3G with it.

I think OP's getting H for HSDPA so the sim would have to be provisioned to get that, no? Perhaps call customer services and check though...

Could be a 3G outage - there have been a few recently, including 1 here in Bristol which affected all the staff based here.

hi thanks for the posts!

it's a new sim as it was a new contract.

I can connect and get data on 3g, and it shows as H and browses fast!

the problem is I can't make or receive calls unless I force the phone to 2g

Weve had problems with our 3G masts in Harrogate, getting overloaded and people were unable to make voice calls unless they selected 2G, could be something simlar?

We had our tech guys reduce the HSDPA speeds on the masts to allow more voice callers, whilst upgrades were completed to compensate for heavy traffic
