Guest Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Hi guys, just installed the modaco rom, literally quicker!!! Just a quick one, any suggestion for getting the ip address of my device ? ( I would need it for sshing into it and I couldn't find any info about ip in the menu ) TIA Tommaso
Guest cyberon Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I'm gonna port some more 2.1 UI elements over to give a 'white notification bar' option (and other bits) for the next Beta (later this week). Please let us choose between white or black notification bar, i have a brown Hero and the black bar suits it much better! :) Thanks for the great work!
Guest cowai Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 How can I get the "reboot" command to work? I get "not permitted" with SU rights...
Guest PhonePersona Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 make sure that you have written the command correctly. Might be the problem. echo "1536,3072,4096,21000,23000,25000" > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree Thanks.
Guest matokt Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Longing for the beta 6! with the improved internal taskkiller Paul, what else can we expect to see in the upcoming new beta?
Guest Caffeine Dependent Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Anyone had a negative experience with the taskkiller tweak? Sounds like a goer for the main ROM? P +1 for inclusion in MCR Been using it for the past 24 hours and my Hero is fast + smooth.
Guest D I Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 On the browser I've noticed a problem with sites that show embedded Flash content, and I'm not sure if it's because of the ROM. If I go to a site with Flash (eg. any of those Flash game sites), then, instead of showing the hour glass or the 'rejected' icon, it sometimes will show a mess of green+blue+red or else the proper icon but in green. Any ideas how this happened? I have noticed this issue even on a full wipe, so I wonder if it has something to do with the items I selected in the kitchen. Can someone try this in their android browser while browsing a Flash site? eg. try to run a game at www.flashgames247.com. I know this is a very minor issue but I hope it's not a side effect of a bigger issue.
Guest hamh Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Wow, I've never been so happy with my Hero. First, Beta 5 is super good. Second, after disabling swap it becomes snappier. Third, with the taskkiller tweak, my hero is flying!!!!
Guest kookix Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) MoDaCo Ad Free member soon. I did the Android's internal taskiller tweak on MCR 3.1. I'm impressed ! +1 for inclusion in MCR Maybe we could adjust the setting to be more than perfect ! ^^ Edited January 28, 2010 by kookix
Guest RatSon Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Anyone had a negative experience with the taskkiller tweak? Sounds like a goer for the main ROM? P this one should be handled with care. free ram is bad ram. i mean the system can be way more responsive if applications are in background and don't have to be loaded again and again because memory is freed up every x minutes (this is the case if we set aggressive tweaks). applications in memory usually mean performance improvement and not the cause of sluggishness. only applications not well written can cause lagg or battery drain while they are sleeping, these shall be kept closed once they are not used. that's the advantage of a 'manual' task killer. you can ignore applications you want to keep running in background, whilst kill others you don't. not to mention what happens to apps like fring which have to run in bg if you want to use them. anyways internal taskkiller tweaks can be fine too, you shall just be careful choosing the right values for you needs. my suggestion is "1536,2048,4096,10240,15360,23040" as an efficient initial setting, but everyone shall customize this for personal needs. for this i plan to write an app where you could set these without any command line hacking. please let me know if you would like such an application, and what features you would like to be implemented? (like boot time settings, profiles, etc...) the meaning of these numbers was asked, here is a good explanation (from xda): Details on the 6 categories: #1: FOREGROUND_APP: Only the current application in the foreground. This is the activity that is the focus for the user's actions. #2: VISIBLE_APP: Applications which are not in the foreground but are still visble to the user. That is, another activity lies on top of it and that activity either is transparent or doesn't cover the full screen. #3: SECONDARY_SERVER: First: The "HOME" application (or SenseUI on Hero) also falls into this category! So do not set this limit to high! Further: All (secondary) services, which are currently running. These are all normal services as we know them from applications. ("Primary" services are life-critical services like the PhoneService which never will get killed by the lowmemorykiller.) #4: HIDDEN_APP: Any other Activity which falls not under #1 or #2. So any Activity as soon as it is not visible anymore (i.e. in the background, because of pressing Home, or starting another Activity). #5: CONTENT_PROVIDER: Processes which host a content provider that does not have any clients connected to it. For explanation: Content providers store and retrieve data and make it accessible to all applications. Examples are: the contacts content provider, the calendar content provider, the sms content provider, and so on. These allow different applications to access the same underlying data (contacts, calendar, ...). #6: EMPTY_APP: This is a process without anything currently running in it. On Android a prgrammer can call "finish()" to close an activity. The system still can decide to keep the "empty" process running, to avoid the startup overhead when the user needs the activity again. All processes in this group are empty processes. ps. sry for my english :)
Guest JamesKing Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'd also vote for "disable compcache" as default now. It will make near everyone's experience better, and people will love you more for it :)
Guest Paul Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 New option in the 'Expert' section of the kitchen... :) P
Guest jotapesse Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'd also vote for "disable compcache" as default now. It will make near everyone's experience better, and people will love you more for it :) I agree!
Guest Paul Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Disable comcpache is now defaulted to 'checked'.
Guest yabolek Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Hi! Wanted to switch from 2G to 3G today and I could not find the setting for that! I'm using Switch 2g/3g app which used to take me directly to the settings page. Now I could not find the switch on that page. Tried to look elsewhere - no luck. Seems like I'm stuck on 2G now with 3.2b5 :) Pls help! Screenshot: Edited January 28, 2010 by yabolek
Guest ilbulgaro Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 there's a problem with the core download link....
Guest Paul Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Have you tried a 3G toggling app from the market? P
Guest yabolek Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Have you tried a 3G toggling app from the market? P I'm using an app called "Switch Network Type 2G / 3G" by SoftXPerience and it seems to work fine as usual (taking me to the wireless settings -> mobile network settings page). Unfortunately the settings page itself misses the switch (it was called "use only 2g networks" if I remember correctly).
Guest LouiS22 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 had the problem that wifi won't turn off today for the first time... reboot fixed it though... Yes, something is not ok with that. I've had the same problem.
Guest ilbulgaro Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Works for me... P when i click it opens http://www.modaco.com/ what could be the problem?
Guest ilbulgaro Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 solve it....it was a chrome problem..on explorer works fine...thanks xD
Guest martyn028 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 I'm using an app called "Switch Network Type 2G / 3G" by SoftXPerience and it seems to work fine as usual (taking me to the wireless settings -> mobile network settings page). Unfortunately the settings page itself misses the switch (it was called "use only 2g networks" if I remember correctly). Confirmed im using MCR Beta 5 and i also have this option missing , but my handset is receiving HSDPA From my understanding the default value of the switch was off so handset was set at default to receive 3G/hsdpa .... maybe a Wipe will resolve you issue of not receiving 3G kind regards Martyn
Guest BTJ Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Have you tried a 3G toggling app from the market? P But why has this option been removed?? I also use this option, as I have bad 3G reception where I live and have not updated to 3.2 yet because of this missing option.... :) BTJ
