Guest cheese_za Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 My I900 has a major calibration issue. It seems to be something to do with the right side of the screen. The whole screen's claibration is off and you have to click right of everything and I cannot click on things close to the edge(right side). When using the calibrate tool, the target will continue to move and does not stop. I have to leave the phone and let it go to standby before i can use the phone. I've tried calibration so much that the screen has five dots etched into it from the stylus. Is there a way to fix or repair this without having to send it in? Thanks for any help.

I had similar issue but with bottom part of screen (it was possible to calibrate but for example clicking on keyboard icon was interpretated as clicking about 0.5cm above it). I've sent it to service but they say that everything is ok. Then I get new digitizer (you can buy original one on ebay for resonable price) and replaced it on my cost in service (I paid 8 euro for changing).

Yes, I had a similar issue. Replacing the digitizer should fix it. Just read up this thread: http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...panel-on-omnia/ And this page will help heaps with the installation. http://www.formymobile.co.uk/omniadisassembly.php And the samsung service manual as well. http://data.hu/get/1487730/SamsungOmniaSer...Manual.pdf.html

Guest ely_az Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 thank you qbus and naynada, your assistance is most appreciated. Your digitizer is probably fine but the software is not letting you calibrate it. I had this same problem and fixed it by doing this: In the registry go to \HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH\ and change the MaxCalError to 100 or larger. Once that is done wait 30 sec and soft reset. Now run the screen calibration again and it should go through this time and fix your problem. Make sure you use a stylus to calibrate and be precise in hitting the X.
Guest rappetor Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 Well, it kinda depends I guess. I have calibration issues as well. Could use that tweak to get it to work (or give it 10 tries before it actually calibrates) but that gives me different problems. When 'calibrated' correctly, the touch positions are still off, not on the correct spot. At certain points on the screen it's perfect, but at some points it's not. Also when I use the register tweak to set the calibration data for me, it's still not good. And especially in the middle, the screen sensitivity is really bad. I also have a question though, what are good digitizers to get from e-bay? Will the hong-kong ones do? Someone have experience with those? They go for around 10 euro's (13-14 dollar), or should I be looking at the more expensive ones? Somehow I have a feeling those are the same :D

Somehow I have a feeling those are the same  Yep, my middle section degraded to the point where I needed to press extremely hard, causing the LCD component to discolour. And a section on the right simply no longer responded. I bought a AUD 22.50 (~19 USD) from wholesaleandy. Only had it for 2 weeks, so I can't say much of its durability, but for the moment at least, it is once again a joy to use the omnia :D

I can actually calibrate my screen now. The right side of the screen is still not 100% and keys p & , are activated by pressing on the silver surround. So I will still need to buy a new screen in any case. When I do, will I need to return the value back to its original setting? thanks for the help ely_az, much appreciated. EDIT: I should probably add that p & , are activated by pressing on the silver background surround of the screen. This is in portrait mode using the samsung keyboard after editing the vaue mentioned above. Edited September 2, 2009 by cheese_za
