Help me install OCN8 on My Storage

Ok, I just purchased OCN8, which indicates that it's supposed to be used with its MicroSD card in the phone.

I have an Omnia i910 and recently upgraded to the official VZW CF03 rom and I've only installed PocketInformant, Google Maps, and SPB Backup on it.

I've searched and searched for help on installing OCN8 and the Omnia, but have only found some postings on IGO8 (which I believe is much the same) and thought the notes I found would work...

1) I copied the files & folders from the MicroSD card to my Omnia i910's "My Storage\" root. (2577\, Games\, OCN8\ and the two PDF files to the root of the "My Storage\" folder)

2) I updated the My Storage\OCN8\sys.txt.... so that it says app="My Storage/OCN8" rather than app="%SDCARD%"

3) I executed the "My Storage\AUTORUN.EXE" using File Explorer on my omnia.

It seemed like the software was starting to install, but as soon as I get the spash screen, it goes away and then nothing. Then, I saw the OCN8 Today entry. So I click on that. I either get a message indicating that it's already running and I should wait or soft-reset... or I get the spash screen, and then it goes away.

Has anyone had success installing OCN8 on their Omnias?

Landscape or Portrait? I had heaps of problems with iGO8 (from screenshots, exactly the same) and it kind of loaded, but then died after the first screen in portrait. Once I flipped it to landscape it worked fine (after I edited the name of the 240x400 file - it was originally 400x240, but the file was looking for '240x400').

Not sure if this is the same problem you're having... hope it helps.

As soon as I installed the card it installed into main memory and has worked like a champ ever since. If you want to move it, I think that has to be done after the install. I use it in both portrait and landscape and with my Redfly at 480x800.

After searchinig some more, I found a tip to put this into the sys.txt file..

[device]

sdcard_dsk_num=7

But still no luck. Then, I found a note from another IGO8 user who installed to his "My Storage/" area and used sdcard_dsk_num=3. Again, no luck.

On one of these attempts, I noticed that I was getting the "INIT API" message that other users had reported, but subsequently resolved, but I still cannot get it working on my i910.

I tried installing it directly from the MicroSD card this morning, but still get the "INIT API" error message.

I'm starting to think that this software is not worth all this trouble and that I should just return it. I understand that they want to reduce piracy, but when you buy the software, they should make it flexible enough for people to install it where they want to.

Do you have a bigger microsd card that you already use? Just transfer the files directly onto that other card, then u can still use it as your GPS prog. and a mass storage option... might be a simple way around it. I just use iGO straight off a little 1gb sd card... the 16gb in the phone is plenty of space for everything i need...

My Omnia has 8GB, my MicroSD card is also 8GB and the OCN one is only 2GB and is full. From what I understand, copying the files to any other media will not work, but maybe I will try that. Thanks.

The answer is NO.

Reason why is that each SD card shipped with OCN8 has a unique identifier burned in to it, but not accessible through normal SD driver interfaces (OCN8 reads this data through a very low-level access to the card, something that only OCN8 knows how to do; the location, encryption, etc. of this data on the card is not publicly available).

So, no matter what you do, OCN8 will not run if it doesn't find the specific card in the phone that it was manufactured with.

Couldn't he just be able to duplicate the original sd onto his 8gb one with dd in linux? DD copies the partition byte for byte, so even that low level data would get copied. Anyways, you can run iGO8 off my storage and a memory card, so I guess you should be able to do it.

In SYS.txt try putting app="%SDCARD%/OCN8" and remove the sdcard_disk_num. On my iGO8 installation, it says app="%SDCARD%/iGO8" and it works from my storage without a problem.

Thanks for all the assistance, but I will be returning the software (sending it back today).

After trying to install using the officail card in my Omnia... and then also in my Axim X51v, I still get the "INIT API" error message and the software simply quits.

I've decided it's more trouble than it's worth. I'll keep my eyes open for something that is advertised as being capable of being installed into your My Storage or another MicroSD card. I've sufficiently lost interest in OCN. OCN's tech help didn't even help much and only addressed one of my two questions.

Thanks again.
