Guest mirfarali Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Hi there, I am not sure if its something serious or not but its been bugging me. Since a couple of days I see a different icon on my Omnia status bar which looks something like "not connected to computer" icon. Usually my phone had "3G" in its place but now this new icon is being displayed and it keeps changing to "3G" every few seconds and back.. I checked my settings but I do not see anything new or different in them. I tried to hard reset my phone and even flashed with a ROM but still the same. Why is this icon being displayed and how do i get rid of it. I tried looking up for it but could not find anything. Looking forward to your replies. Thanks in advance. P.S: Attaching two pics of my phone to let you know what I am talking about.
Guest dwallersv Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 It means your phone is unable to make a data connection. I'll bet you can't connect to anything via the web browser, recieve email, etc. When the 3G is showing all by itself, it means you are in an area that supports 3G, but you do not have an active data session. When you need a data channel, the phone connects with a broadband name/password that your carrier requires, and is preconfigured on the phone. If this fails, you'll get that little icon with an x. You also will get this in an area where there is no support for data, but that's a less likely explanation.

If I want to browse or recieve email, I can just use GPRS and still am able to do it. The thing is that it keeps switching between the two icons and its been this way since a couple of days. Earlier it would just show the 3G icon. Does it mean that now there is some network problem in my area due to which this is happening???

Guest N_M_S Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Check out the manual, it has description of all these icons.
Guest mirfarali Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 I did check the manual but it didnt have any description for the icon. Though I think dwallersv is right, coz I changed sim with another provider and bingo. the 3G icon was stable and wasnt flicking. Then realised that there had been an outage for the first provider and since this problem started since then. Thanks to all
