Guest technofunktrial Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Not sure that this will get much exposure, but I wanted to share a list of the software that I've tried out on the omnia. I figured there are a lot of people out there that have tried all of this software if not more. I can say that I didn't make it through all 123 pages of this forum, but I probably will at some point. Anyway, I've compiled this list since I got the phone a little over a week ago. I had an i760 and got it set up so that it was much more usable and fun. list o'Software for OMNIA -- incase of catastrophic failure.... _________________________________________________________________ *Tried: - see notes below ---------------- Ken's Today Screen - clunky interface, not customizable as to adding application links Coreplayer v1.3 - good.. plays just about everything - not super smooth, but pretty good on the omnia Facebook v.1 - limited use Fingerkeyboard Fring Googlemaps GoogleSearch ICSInstall - a must have Netcfcfg Netcf v3.5 PCM Keyboard Skyfire - southparkstudios.com is all I have to say Skype Mobile Slick - a great chat program.. I wonder if there is a skype plugin for it. I love fring's integration so I can use my bluetooth headset (plantronics voyager 502) Total Commander (tcmdpocketarm) - an good file explorer program Touchpal - I really like this in portrait mode, but in landscape it seems very much less accurate even though the buttons are bigger.. anybody else experiencing this? WMWifirouter - this is a lifesaver program, I use it to connect my laptop to the net so I can browse. I live a simple rural life and there is no dsl/cable available. Jeez, I actually bought this program to spite verizon. If I weren't unemployed and barely able to pay for my phone I would buy more software. ifonz 2 pointui Home2 Throttle Launcher palringo vtap bing (windows live search) adobe flash 7 my mobiler v.1.23 clear temp opera 9.7beta xnview wisbar advance 3 wisbar advance desktop 2.2.4.5 LCARS theme Samsung Midomi - how cool, I heard of these sorts of programs a while ago, but never figured I would get them being a verizon customer.. why does verizon have to suck so bad?? - haven't tested yet s2u2 - a great program with lots of customization s2v - a good viewer, but lacks much functionality other than viewing images vito sms chat - I really dig the interface, but wish I could get rid of the stock wm one, and just use this for everything.. seems like I end up going back to the stock for viewing links and opens with a lot of programs i use. caxixi - still have yet to give this a try, looked interesting. *Reload If Doom: ----------------- netcfcfg - configuring tool for .net netcf v3.5 - newest? .net skyfire v1.1 - newest coreplayer v1.3 - useful for playing just about anything fring - clunky - is there a more stylish program out there that does the same thing. I want skype/aim/msn/y!/icq/maybe facebook chat touchpal wmwifirouter - purchased! home2 - Slows down phone a lot - reconsider - the appribbon is kinda lame Bing - not used very much, but I liked the old live search Google maps - flash 7 - installed, but not sure that it does anything - installed it to my storage.. I don't think it's doing anything, though with skyfire installed, what's the point? Is it even necessary? S2U2 - it's just a good thing to have.. the winmo default lock can still allow pocket fiddling *Not using, or put on storage card to install when needed --notes included about why I don't have them installed ----------------- Facebook is pointlessly limited - not a very good integration with facebook online - poor microsoft Ken's Today Screen - painfully basic - no options for easy customization Fingerkeyboard - didn't like the arrows or the tiny buttons, might be better suited for a vga phone googlesearch - pointless today screen plugin - just open opera/skyfire pcm keyboard - didn't really like it skype mobile - outdated program that hogs resources - see fring Slick - good program, but fring does everything slick does... only no log - I really like fring palringo - fring is better ifonz2 - cheesy in wqvga/qvga format - didn't mess with it too much vtap - useless for watching video.. buggy! -let me repeat USELESS at least on the omnia opera 9.7beta - resource hog on omnia - not as fast as 9.5 from the rom - I wonder if it has flash like skyfire.. if so, it would be worth keeping throttle launcher RC1 - couldn't get it running - had to reset device to get back control LCARS WAD theme - big and slow menus - requires more customization - menus are burried too deeply for me. I like clean and simple cleartemp didn't do much - I'm smart enough to move the opera cache and remove temp files My mobiler is a cool application, but not one that needs to be on the phone xnview - good program, but seems like one I wouldn't use often try slide to view maybe? wisbar advance 3 - cool program, not sure how many resources it hogs, but it does a lot of things that I like - only problem is it isn't very good for a touch only device. I end up having to turn on the optical mouse to be able to use it.. my stupid fat thumbs wisbar advance desktop - on the fence about this program still. seems more powerful than home 2, but also seems like it will just slow things down or eat batteries for breakfast - recommendations? *Find: ----------------- *Program that automatically shuts off the broadband when idle or an easy to use connection manager *A good ebook reader, I've read that adobe is good, as well as foxit. *registry editor *a picture viewer that uses sliding and easy to use, but also allows for resizing images... is that too much to ask for? *the 1% battery replacement thing sounds interesting, but I don't think it's really necessary because it doesn't help prevent battery drain *Updates for the GS (gsfinder/player/others?) software I had on my i760 *a messenger program that's slick that does skype and all the other chats *touchpal vibrate functionality (hepatic feedback) *Any other software that will improve the functionality of the device without bogging it down Other questions: ----------------------- What can I do to maximize battery life, and still use the device I want a good simple UI. I haven't had the damn phone long enough to really get suited to one ui or another. I don't like the original samsung widget touchwiz thing.. nor really enjoy the winmo default today screen. I used my i760 extensively, but that thing had a tendency to hard reset itself and I would lose all the work I put into it. Never got into custom cooking or flashing though. I also don't really like the sbp stuff, it seems to do a lot of crap that it seems like only a minority would want and eats up lots of space (not that that is a problem on the omnia storage) I'm pretty good at photoshopping and making animated gifs if anybody needs help, or wants something custom, I would be willing to give it a try. Also, anybody buy the noreve case for their omnia? I just ordered one, knowing full well how long it was going to take to get. Is it worth it? Screen protectors? Anybody got any extras? heh Anything I can do to contribute, I would be more than willing. Thanks. Psst: I had all the names of the programs underlined, but I'm too lazy to do it on here... if it's hard to read, complain and I'll fix it. -Eric
Guest technofunktrial Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 BTW I have a Verizon i910 - not upgrade rom or anything.. I plan on it, but I got the phone and ebay and it didn't initially come with the usb cable. I plan on upgrading as soon as the cable arrives in the mail. I can't believe how much time I've devoted to this silly little device. Go Go Gadget phone!

Guest technofunktrial Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 My Inputs: Program that automatically shuts off the broadband - a simple reg edit or http://www.touchxperience.com/ registry editor - http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ I'm pretty good about registry stuff (although I've never done it on windows mobile, but used to starting from win3.11) Do you know the key to change? I suppose I could do a search (figured it would be more difficult than a simple reg hack). Thanks for the input.
Guest technofunktrial Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 (edited) Anybody tried this on the i910? http://mysamsungomnia.wordpress.com/2008/1...g-enhanced-gps/ It apparently speeds up the wait, not using gprs xtra data, for a gps fix... someone suggested it turned off the logging. you would think it would be the opposite, logging affecting it to get fix faster, no? I notice if I type really fast touchpal has trouble keeping up even without the vibrate function turned on.
