Microsoft will unleash the Windows Mobile 6.5 on the 6th of October and all current upgradable smartphones will be able to install it. Those and the new, which are still not launched, will ship directly with the new OS.

All info according to gsmarena.com

thanks

I don't think it's the cooked roms that are the problem, really. I think it's the OS that is the biggest problem. But hopefully they have addressed many issued that have plagued 6.1 by the time they release the final version.

Why are you guys so exited? The version that's coming out is older than what we have in our cooked roms. So relax, no fixes so far :D

Yes that's what confused me. Either they have really old photos or Microsoft gave them old OS because everything is changed on new WM versions.

Ofcourse it's an older version than the newest beta ones. At some point they have to stop development for a certain version and get it ready for release. It has to be stable, fully tested and distributed in some form. The newest versions you see going around will end up in 6.5.1 as far as I've read.

Can't say I'm that impressed anymore with 6.5 but it's an improvement. With a new contract coming up I think I'm going to skip WM for the moment though. Have been using WM for over 5 years now so it's quite a change for me. But I don't think I'll be happy with more than a year sticking to WM 6.5. So I'll be jumping over to Android for the time being and wait for WM7 to arrive.

For some reason I don't think I'll be the only one jumping OS the coming year. Guess WM is going to lose some of it's market share in the next year and a half. Can't be good MS is losing their long-time WM users. Although those might switch back faster as well...

I have to agree that alot of people will be jumping from WM and going over to Android or iPhone.

But just because HTC has started to release a few Android based devices does not mean that WM is on the way out. HTC will still be making WM phones alogside their Android phones.

What is really worrying for me regarding the future of WM, is the fact that the buyers at what i think is the biggest network provider in the UK, Vodafone, dont seem to have clue about anything.

They no longer have ANY windows mobile devices on their boooks at either consumer level OR business/enterprise level. What the funk is that about?

Anyway... back to release of WM 6.5. What i am hoping this will mean is we will get an OFFICIAL WM6.5 ROM for the i900. Hopefully an official ROM from Samsung would mean that features such as the Omnias optical mouse function would work on WM6.5.

My girlfriend just got a LG Crystal for like $500 on e-bay, and I was messing with it. The awesome thing was the screen was much much more sensitive than my screen for my Omnia. The horrible thing was the home screen let you customize nothing. The only thing you could really do was change the backgrounds. I was honestly horribly disappointed with it because I've customized my phone more than anything and with this phone not even allowing more than one home screen change, it was really an eye opener. I've also heard from iPhone users that the home screen gets really annoying since you can't change it.

I think I'll stick with WM for awhile since I can customize it to my tastes. It's actually really nice that I can change different UIs if I want to. But I'm in agreement that WM should really do something with 7 instead of shrugging it off. Hopefully they won't make people feel sorry for you when you say you have a WM phone, haha!

i meant with bugs

not bugs itself i meant os uncompatible issues as the optical mouse i use it very often instead of the damn gay stylus !

hoping the official copy gonna fix it and the wifi issues too

but its ok as its running right now on Omnia II

also its more finger friendly than wm6.1

just waiting for the next month :)

A guy at Carphone Warehouse in London told me that they were cutting down on WM phones in favour of Symbian "because they can do just as much as WM but are cheaper". They are still selling the iPhone of course, which is more expensive than WM, probably because it is so crazy popular. Vodafone still have the Touch Pro 2 in the shop and on their web site, but the sales guy I spoke to yesterday predicted that Android will rival the iPhone soon and replace WM as Google supplies more and more services for PCs, laptops and netbooks for a one-stop all-in-one solution. And according to an article I read WM's market share is shrinking due to the popularity of iPhone and Blackberry, so perhaps it really is time to start worrying about the future of WM.

I'm not particularly wedded to WM as OS, but it offers pretty much all the functionalities and programmes I need on one device, some of them very specific, and I like the fact that it is so flexible and customisable. I'm also keeping an eye on Android and iPhone, but Android is still too embryonic to consider switching and the iPhone is too locked down. Plus I paid for a number of my WM apps, so I'd like to get as much use out of them as I can.

Yesterday one of the users of Russian 4PDA.ru forum was in MS Saint Petersburg Representative office and took part in talks on WinPhone (i.e. WinMob 6.5) Official release. As MS officials said, WinPhone commercial release in Russian will be announced in two weeks, and Samsung payed for update on i900. So, English MS version of WinPhone will be released NO LATER, I suppose. WinPhone for Samsung i900 will be ready around late September (Russian version - about two weeks later)
