Some days GPS works, some days it doesn't: how to get it reliable?

Right now I'm on Bgill's most recent cf03 ROM, on verizon i910. Some days GPS works great, locking on to 4-5 satellites within a minute, and some days it won't pick up anything at all.

What could make it behave like this?

(and yes, I have Location enabled under the phone settings)

thank you all so much!

Bad weather? Being in an area with lots of obstructions?

Nope, I live in a field. . sky is blue as can be these past few weeks. Google Maps just keeps saying "signal weak."

Often in a day I'll get a decent lock, leave google maps, and a few hours later try it again and get nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas?

what does cgps do? it looks like it just logs my location - how does that help? Is it worth flashing a 6.5 rom?

P.S. is gpsgate worth the money?

thanks!

I'm pretty anxious to get gps working reliably.

All it does is keeps your GPS constantly on (doesn't use much battery, either) and thus whenever you use a GPS program, it already has a lock, so there's no wait.

I use GPS Toggle, which is a Today screen plugin and doesn't need WinMo 6.5. (Google it)

+1 for cgps

the only draw back is it does get my phone warm enough to get my pop tart ready in the morning
