Well mozilla just released Fenec alpah3 for winmo and I must say the improvements are exciting

among other things the biggest thing is the devs are now using the omnia and omnia 2 at targets for fenec releases that means the latest cab now works on our screen res and the browser is actually useable rather than just feeling like a clunky tech demo.

I feel this is big news in light of Torch mobiles recent aquisition by RIM and the assumed subsequent death of the iris browser.

Ive tried it and works fine when installed on my storage under 6.5 the target was 6.1 so theres no reason to assume it wouldnt work.

Edit:Direct Link to cab too big for upload here.

Thanks for the post! I just installed it to my storage and although its a lil laggy, I really like it. I can't figure out how to zoom in yet but that will come. As for the performance, I wonder if it will be faster installed to the device. Stuff running from my storage has been kinda laggy since the CF03 update and custom rom flash on my i910.

That's great news! Although its still a little laggy, its good to know they feel the omnia's presence.

PS: Using WM6.5 - Installed to Storage

As it is, I'd say it's still un-usable as an every day browser... there's the zoom issue, the fact that every time you try to move the web page around it brings in those side bars, and the lag for starters. But I agree - when it's finished (or atleast comes out as a Beta version) it definitely looks promising.

Anyone willing to give a feature pro/con summary compared to Opera?

Anyone willing to give a feature pro/con summary compared to Opera?

at this point it cant really compete with opera (im personally not nuts about opera anyway)

but when it reaches a more stable state:

Extensions!! thosoe wonderful little things you love about your desktop browser now avalible on your mobile browser

when its working weve will also be a HUGE plus this will sync your passwords bookmarks TABS history and other things that can be extended with your phone browser.

Open source there for legal to distribute new versions and such

The awesome bar.

standard module plugin support

the devlopers are building it with our platform in mind

cons:

memory this is firefox after all

on memory size is HUGE at the moment

devlopment is slow going as the windows mobile team is smaller than the actual fenec team the linmo version of fenec is acctually at beta2 now i think winmo is a bit behind.

I probbly missed abunch of stuff and as i said Im biased but real competetion with opera will only improve both of them so its something to watch even if you love opera

I've tried it, currently, it looks promising, but it's unusable in current state, can't zoom, very very slow, theme could be nicer, but i like the actions you can do with your finger. Opera is nice, but i think the explorer in 6,5 roms is better and more stable. I don't have problems with zoom or double click zoom while i do with opera, only problem i have with both is i can't scroll in landscape mode, i could with KC's build 21806, but when i upgraded to newer versions, scrolling anywhere in landscape mode was impossible, not just with browsers, anywhere.
