I found it slow, hard to use (granted I spent about 30 seconds using it) and just plain ugly. Hopefully the 6.5 update makes this device even easier to use with the finger.

Yes- judging by the screenshots, it looks as if Toshiba are using a standard WM6.5 interface for the update. You are right about the Tosh interface- slow, buggy and impossible to configure as the link choices are predefined. Mobile Shell 3 is still the best, but Phone genius is also good, though it doesn't display as well in landscape mode. It isn't a 'shell' program, just a fairly good phone/contacts/launcher application.

It isn't a 'shell' program, just a fairly good phone/contacts/launcher application. try point UI - specifically Point Sense (google it) it's a near perfect port of the HTC interface, free and a simple .cab / file copy instillation, no need for all this shell and throttle launcher nonsense!
