Guest hp1 Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 I'm due for an upgrade in October and have been following this forum with interest since the hero was released. It appears that Paul's last custom ROM was based on the latest updated ROM from HTC with some additional tweaks. While I'm not too worried about performing a custom ROM update I was curious; if my phone (which will be from Orange) does not come with the latest update from HTC out of the box, will it update itself or will I be able to update it from the HTC website? Is the standard update any slower then the Modaco Custom ROM? If fellow HERO owners reccomend the Modaco ROM over the standard HTC one then I'm happy to attempt a Root followed by a flash following the excellent instructions on this forum. Cheers
Guest chucky.egg Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 There's a post around talking about OTA (Over The Air, i.e. using GPRS/3G or WiFi) updates, but I don't know if that's automated or if you have to trigger it somehow. It's not available yet AFAIK anyway. I'm using the Modaco MCR 2.2e ROM and it is significantly faster than the HTC 1.7-something ROM my device came with. Check what ROM version you have, when you get it.
Guest Paul Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 So you parted with Symbian for Android and you're back at MoDaCo eh chucky.egg? :) P
